The State-Free (old free State of Orange) is one of the nine news provinces of South Africa since 1994.
History

TheFree one succeeded in its geographical entirety the old republic Boer of the free State of Orange (1854) and the province of the same name made up the formation of the South African Union in 1910.
Its name was shortened into State-Free ( Free State or Vrystaat ) in 1995.
Geography
TheFree one is next to 6 of new the provinces of the country (Gauteng, North-western, Mpumalanga, Cape-of-North, Cape-Eastern and KwaZulu-Native) as well as the wedged kingdom of the Lesotho.TheFree one is located in the high plains of the center of South Africa. It has a basement rich in Minerais such as the Or and the Diamant.
With its 30.000 farms, the province is famous like the attic with Blé of the country.
By its geographical location, it is also an important railway crossroads.
Its capital is Bloemfontein (municipality of Mangaung - 2001) what means “fountain with the flowers”.
Its main cities are Kroonstad, Welkom, Winburg.
Policy
It is dominated today politically by ANC after having been a long time, under the Apartheid, one of the principal strongholds afrikaners of the national Parti and the Conservative party.The Prime Minister for the province is Mrs. Beatrice Marshoff (ANC).
Municipal elections of March 1st, 2006
At the time of the municipal elections of March 1st, 2006, the ANC gains 75,31% of the votes and 24 municipalities against 12,47% with the democratic Alliance (DA) and 3,25% with the Front of freedom and 2,68% with the Congrès African Side.
