Several thousands of years ago, the greatest races present in the galaxy joined by forming an alliance called the “ Alliance of the 4 races ” of which the goal is still unknown (for a simple exchange to perhaps know):

History
Stargate SG-1 begins exactly a year after the film Stargate, the door of the stars . The program is more or less with the abandonment and the colonel Jack O' Neill is with the retirement. But an extraterrestrial commando with uniforms similar to those of the soldiers of Râ crosses the door and invades the base of the Stargate Command (SGC) on Earth. The command requires of O' Neill to go on Abydos to see from which the extraterrestrial ones came. But when O' Neill finds Daniel Jackson, it realizes that the aliens did not come from Abydos… Daniel explains whereas there exists a network of more than one hundred of doors leading to as many different worlds, and that on Abydos it found a whole series of coordinates which do not seem any more to function.
With the assistance of some computers, they recompute the current location of planets compared to coordinated old several millenia. The army decides whereas they must explore the worlds accessible by the door from stars to evaluate the extraterrestrial threats. Thus the Stargate program reappears and O' Neill is in load of the SG-1, the first team. During this time on Abydos of extraterrestrial pass the door and make a raid, kidnapping many people of which Sha' Re the woman of Daniel, and Skaara his brother. Daniel then finds an personal interest take part in the operation, joined SG-1 as an archeologist and a specialist in old civilizations.
The first mission of SG-1 is to go to save the kidnapped people, but the team is quickly made capture in her turn. They will not owe their safety which Teal' C has, a Jaffa guard which decides all to leave to follow them in the hope to release its people of the “false gods”. Thereafter, Teal' C will join SG-1, as well as the captain Samantha Carter, a physician of the quota.
Distribution of the roles
In the role of the colonel O' Neill one finds Richard Dean Anderson, celebrates interpreter of MacGyver . In film, O' Neill was a soldier cold, a machine to be killed without nuance and completely suicidal since his/her five year old son had died while playing with his weapon of service. “For the series, one took again the character of O' Neill and one worked it over again with the way in which “Harrison Ford could have played it”, explains us the Co-producer of the series Michael Greenburg, “it became a mixture of Han Solo and Indiana Jones, but with the direction of the humor and the attitude of Richard”. O' Neill became a character much more sympathetic nerve, always ready to make a witty remark or to make fun of its own scientific incompetence. It is a character who can be realistic vis-a-vis the events while showing nobility of soul.Created especially for the series, Teal' C is a former warrior Jaffa become member of SG-1 and he is interpreted by Christopher Judge. Teal' C is a very right and moral character who never laughs, a little like a Vulcan in Star Trek. According to Christopher Judge, “it is a role difficult to interpret because Teal' C must always remain serious and each time I have a scene with Richard, it does all that it can to do to me to laugh, even if it means to improvise counterparts. Because of him much of scenes are to be remade! ” Between the characters of O' Neill and Teal' C a solid friendship was created, based on confidence and the respect.
Michael Shanks, already seen on the occasion in the series Highlander , takes again the role of Doctor Daniel Jackson. Daniel is an impassioned archeologist, who is at the origin of discovered secrecy of operation of the door of stars. He lived on the planet Abydos during one year and married with Sha' Re. At the commencement of the series, it is removed and he joined SG-1 in the hope to find it. Daniel in addition is a ladykiller, one can almost say that it has a woman on each planet, of which some have evil to let it leave.
The last member of SG-1 is the captain Samantha Carter, interpreted by Amanda Tapping. Sam is at the same time a soldier who flew fighter plans during the war of the Gulf, but especially a scientist specialized in physics and astrophysics, who should have joined NASA but preferred to work on the Stargate program. During the season two, it was had by Jolinar de Malkshur, a Goa' uld of the Tok' ruffle. The parasite was sacrificed to save the life of Sam and died in it. Since, Sam has access to some of the memories of Jolinar and it can feel the presence of a Goa' uld. About another plan, since step badly of time, the spectator knows that Sam and Jack is turned around, without never daring to leave together (they are soldiers after all), but one could see that in a parallel universe they were married.
The person in charge of SGC and the program in front of the government is the general Georges Hammond, played by Don S. Davis, which one already saw in Mystères in Twin Peaks but especially in X-Files, at the borders of reality as a father of Scully. Anecdote sympathetic nerve, it also played in two episodes of the series MacGyver as a truck driver (but only a few seconds), then in the role of a poacher seeking to eliminate MacGyver (season 3). Being in load of (SGC) it is confronted every day with extraterrestrial, threats Goa' uld, paradoxes temporal (it is him, young person soldier, which helps SG-1 to return from their voyage in the Sixties) and of the intrigues of palate in the government, whose certain members wish the program stop and others would like to take a control of it to follow a more aggressive policy, to plunder the technology of other civilizations.
According to Amanda Tapping, “environment on the plate is extraordinary. Simple colleagues we all are become almost like brothers and sisters. One is a true family. (...) On the plate one very often laughs. It is often enough that one launches out a glance to start a giggle. (...) At a meeting photographs to Los Angeles, one is all gone at the restaurant, that resembled the meeting of a happy family, and I said myself that I had chance. ”
Series production
In the beginning, there was the film Stargate, the door of the stars (1994) carried out by Roland Emmerich and Co-writing and produced by Dean Devlin, responsible duet inter alia Independence Day and Godzilla . In the role of the colonel O' neill, one finds Kurt Russell (Snake in New York 1997 ) and James Spader ( Crash ) in that of Dr. Daniel Jackson. The film is produced by Canal+ and fire Carolco ( Terminator 2 ). It was a large success of the year 1994.In 1996, the studio MGM decides to buy the rights of film to make a series of it. The studio entrusts the project to Jonathan Glassner and Brad Wright which will have the responsibility of produce and to write the series. In the past, they had already produced for MGM two series of science fiction: Beyond reality, the adventure continues ( Outer Limits ) and Poltergeist, the adventurers of supernatural the , diffused on M6.
The series is entirely turned to the Canada in the studios of Vancouver. The first diffusion of the series is reserved for the American cabled chain Showtime which belongs to the group Paramount-Viacom, chain with toll comparable with Canal+ in France, then a few months after distributed as a syndication. In France, the series is diffused by M6 and Série Club.
It is the American cabled chain today Sci-Fi which produces the series with MGM. For reasons of budget, and following the appearance of the Spin-off Stargate Atlantis , also produced to him by Sci-Fi, the seasons of Stargate were reduced to twenty episodes as from the eighth season (instead of the 22 usual ones).
Various credits
The series knew many credits throughout its ten seasons.- the first credits, which last of the first at the fifth seasons completely, is drawn from the introduction of film adapted in a 60 second old scene: a camera carries out a close-up by moving all around a structure which one sees only circular features. In the last seconds, the camera moves away and one sees appearing the same statue as in film. The names of the actors is registered along this scene.
-
the second credits was diffused only for the first two episodes of the sixth season: it is composed of a series of very closes-up on the door of the stars whose interior ring is active. Anything else is not shown there, and there still the names of the actors posts all along these scenes.
-
the third credits is more traditional series of science fiction: it is quite simply composed of extracts of the series. The characters appear one by one and their name appears in this moment in bottom of the screen. Different version from these credits were made for the changes of main characters (addition/suppression of Jonas, addition/removal of Daniel Jackson, etc). It finishes on a heroic image of all team SG-1 crossing the door of stars together.
-
the fourth credits is diffused for the first part (episodes 1 to 10) of the ninth season on the American chain Sci-Fi only. The characteristic of these credits is that it lasts only 10 seconds contrary to the 60 seconds used until now. According to the producers, that is explained by the will to standardize a new format of production (as of other series do it already, for example Lost, the missings ) but also to gain 50 seconds of publicity in order to better make profitable the series. The name of the actors is then registered with the screen: only the name of the producers is in the credits. It is composed of a door which is activated then of a voyage very runs through the vortex. Everywhere else in the world, it is identical to the third credits, with some changes, in particular in the posting of the title of the series or the visual effects which are enormously more thorough in this one.
Additional credits are used for the republications DVD seasons 1 to 3. It approaches more of the third credits.
Anecdote
RépliCarter is the name given by the fans of Stargate SG-1 to the androïde replicator to the effigy of Samantha Carter, because of its consonance.Stargate SG1 became in 2006, the series of the longest SF of the history of American television… The 200e episode was diffused on August 18th, 2006 and saw for the occasion the return of former characters of the series…
In episode 2 of season 10, when Vala Badly Doran " révise" for its personality tests, a question which it raises is not without pointing out a question of the test of Voight-Kampff in the book " Blade Runner": " You are in the desert. You see a tortoise on the back in full sun. You carry out his distress but made nothing to help it. Why? ". The answer is " Because I am also a tortoise! ".
At the time of the last two episodes of season 7, true a military personality played. It is about the General John P. Jumper, who is commander-in-chief it current of USAF.
Cancellation of the series
August 21st, 2006, the American chain Sci-Fi announced the cancellation of the series. The 10th season will be thus the last. Robert C. Cooper, one of the producers of the series, invites the American fans to be mobilized so that continuous Stargate SG-1 ; for that, he encourages them to look at Stargate SG-1 masses some to show that the series can still hold good, to even be repurchased by another television channel.MGM, holder of the rights of the frankness, gave its green light for the realization of two films direct-to-DVD to finish the series, one having for goal to finish the history of the conflict with the Ori ( Stargate: The Ark off Truth ), the other would have as a subject the temporal voyage ( Stargate: Continuum ).
The turning of Stargate: The Ark off Truth should begin on April 15th, 2007, Stargate: Continuum on June 1st, 2007.
This coincides with the intention posted of MGM to carry out films “Stargate II” and “Stargate III” on big screen with the actors of first film, “Stargate, the door of the stars” being envisaged in an original manner like the beginning of a trilogy. The rumor wants that films II and III will not respect the developments of the series, and the topic of third film tends to confirm it.
