Star Wars: episode III - The Revenge of Sith

the Revenge of Sith is an American film carried out by George Lucas, left in 2005.

It is the sixth opus of the saga the Star Wars by its coming out date, but the third by the chronological order of the history.

Synopsis

The plots which undermine the Galactic République risk to involve its fall. The armed with the clones, carried out by the Jedi, tries to fight separatist , carried out by the Général Grievous, which took possession of several thousands of planetary systems. Comments

It puts in scene the elements set up during the first two episodes. It is also more favourable with the action. The film has the appearance of a true Greek tragedy since the spectator knows already the end of the history told in the first trilogy and that it is by wanting to save its close relations that the hero will end up betraying them and to kill them whereas its former mentor whom he refuses to listen to obtains, him, the means of surviving in the force. The film also breaks one of the principal Hollywood taboos since it suggests the death of children (the massacre is not shown).

George Lucas acknowledges, for this history, a strong inspiration of Dante like, for the dramatic tension, of the Titanic of James Cameron.

A film of transition

Episode III is the episode which marks the transition between the republic (the world of the prelogy) and the Empire (the world of the original trilogy). All in film is turned towards this objective. Thus, the actor Ewan McGregor lengthily studied the manner of speaking, of smiling, of crossing the arms of Sir Alec Guinness, interprets original Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Technology

The visual styles of the two trilogies are different. Indeed episodes IV, V and VI present spaceships to the very angular forms, “very industrial engineering”, ARC-170 starfighter for example. This choice is centered on the need for producing effective vessels of combat in great quantity (indeed it is the war!). On the contrary, in episodes I, II and III, the cuts fluid and round, are inspired by the Art nouveau, centered on the esthetism. As of episode II, the transition is felt, it is accentuated more during episode III.

In the first battle of episode III, one sees that many vessels of the republic (future empire) resemble the futures X-wing S, Chasseur TIE S, and cruiser S. There are also furtive appearances of Faucon Millenium and imperial bipeds. The droïdes resemble also more and more them those of the second trilogy. One at a glance recognizes the medical droïdes which look after Dark Vador. At the end of film, all the droïdes of combat are decontaminated to leave the place only to the imperial clones. And as for the clones, of new generations will be created and they will adopt the style and the row of Stormtroopers. It may be also that the exhaustion of the army of the clones to the wire of the wars does not carry out the Empire to cause the obligatory conscription on the worlds under its domination, which suggests the low technical level of the imperial soldiers of episode IV, who really draw very badly with the blaster. Environment

The environment of the history darkens throughout film. The change is particularly visible after the proclamation of the Empire where the sky of Coruscant which one always had seen shone upon, becomes black and in charge of storms. The rain is then omnipresent. It is as from a psychological point of view as the pressure goes up, the machine is launched, one knows that it cannot be stopped, but one hopes nevertheless… Each defeat puts a blow to us…

Complete history

What follows reveals key moments of the intrigue.

The Galactic République is carrying out a epic war against the Confédération of the Systems Independent under the command of the Lord Sith, the Count Dooku. The leader of the confederated armies droïdes, the General droïde Grievous, took refuge on Coruscant and holds the Chancelier Palpatine as an hostage, directing Galactic Sénat.

Whereas the army droïde tries to escape from Coruscant, an impressive space battle takes place, and the knights Jedi Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi carry out a mission to help the Chancellor. Jedi fight the separatist army. During the battle, the hunter of Obi-Wan is damaged, and both Jedi are crushed in the hangar of the " Invisible Hand" , the flagship of the Grievous general.

Anakin and Obi-Wan fight through the vessel the troops of droïdes. They reach finally the part where the count Dooku retains captive the Palpatine chancellor. A battle with the laser saber follows, the two knights Jedi combatant Dooku unit. During the battle, Dooku strikes Obi-Wan which is found unconscious. Anakin continues the combat, gaining the hand high and cutting the two arms of Dooku. Dooku on the knees, Palpatine encourages Anakin to complete the inoffensive count from now on. After hesitation, Anakin decapitates Dooku in spite of the Jedi rules.

The separatist cruiser starts to be severely damaged in the battle, and starts slowly but unrelentingly its descent towards Coruscant. Anakin carries still unconscious Obi-Wan and runs through the vessel with Palpatine.

The three men are captured by the Général Grievous while at the same time Obi-Wan takes again its spirits. R2-D2 sets up a diversion, making it possible Jedi to find their laser sabers and to flee. However, Grievous escapes and makes so that all the capsules of survival are slackened in space. Whereas the immense vessel penetrates in the atmosphere coruscanti and starts its freefall, Anakin manages to take the orders and not to make it of them be crushed literally on the entirely urbanized surface of planet, redefining the notion of “impossible” for the millenia to come…

A shuttle leads the four survivors to the 500 Republica, the residence of the 500 dignitaries of the Republic. Anakin is accommodated and rented for its heroic acts. It meets Padmé Amidala secretly, and they are embraced. Padmé reveals in Anakin that it is pregnant of their child.

Later, Anakin awakes panicked, covered of sweat. It reveals in Padmé its dream: he saw it dying in the birth of his child, and does not want that this dream is carried out as it was the case for his/her mother.

The Palpatine Chancellor makes come Anakin in his continuation. The Senate still granted greater capacities to Palpatine, being given the urgency and the war. Palpatine entrusts to Anakin its fears, its mistrust towards Jedi. It makes of Anakin its staff representative to the Jedi Council.

The Council accepts the role of Anakin, but refuses to make a Jedi Master of it. That puts Anakin in a black anger, where he insists on the fact that he is much stronger than all Jedi present at the Council. Indeed, only the title of Jedi Master would give access to the files to him best kept Temple, containing inter alia will holocrons Sith and their secrecies. The Council discusses the subjects of war. It is decided that Anakin will have to ensure the protection of the Chancellor, while Yoda organizes a battalion of clones to assist Wookies on Kashyyyk. Remembering the capacity of Sith to be brought back to the life and its dream relating to the death of Padmé, Anakin street towards the office of Palpatine where the battle makes rage:

Mace Windu accompanied by Agen Kolar, Saesee Chock and Kit Fisto, three of the largest swashbucklers of the order, arrives in the office of the chancellor to stop it. Palpatine, denounced by Anakin (“Then the hour is with treason”) declads a small laser saber, hidden in the sleeve of its full clothing, and, with an agility which Jedi would not have believed of the old man, quickly cuts down main Kolar and main Tinn. Soon, Fisto is killed. Mace, on the defensive, avoids the blows. Palpatine and Mace continue their combat through the corridor and in the main office. At this point in time Anakin arrives, and observes the duel. During the combat, the Sith Lord having lost his saber sends flashes of Force, that Mace Windu returns, revealing the real face of the ex-Chancellor, a face deformed and scarified by the use on the obscure side. Anakin can only make, Mace announces that it is too dangerous to be kept in life but Anakin holds in Palpatine and known as that only a decision of the senate can judge its fate although all justice is under the control of Sith. While at the same time Mace was going to complete Palpatine " affaibli" , Anakin divides its hand. Mace, decentralized, is killed by an ultimate flash of Palpatine always in full form. It is sent through broad picture window. During fatal blasting Palpatine exclaims of a diabolic tone “Any limit with my capacity!! ”

Anakin feels guilty what it has just done and entrusts to Palpatine. At the point where it arrived from there, it decides to follow the only means of saving his wife, the obscure side. Palpatine makes of Anakin its Sith apprentice. Anakin is put at knees in front of Palpatine, which gives him the name of Dark Vador ( “Darth Vader” in VO ). Palpatine says to him, “Starting from now any Jedi, including your friend Obi-Wan Kenobi is an enemy of the Republic. ” Palpatine orders in Dark Vador to kill Jedi in the temple and of going in the separatist Mustafar system in order to eliminate Nute Gunray and the other leaders.

Dark Sidious orders with the Clones of all the galaxy: " carry out the Order 66" : the Great Jedi Holocaust, the true final goal of the War of the Clones. Through the Galaxy, Stormtroopers, ex-clones, are turned over without pity against Jedi leading them to the combat, their officers and brothers in arms which they had helped on Géonosis three years earlier… Obi-Wan on Utapau and Yoda on Kashyyyk succeed in of accuracy fleeing. During this meeting, Palpatine reveals the “failure of Jedi to them to exceed the Senate”. Obi-Wan and Yoda go to the Jedi Temple. They still send a message of alarm for all Jedi in life, to inform them not to go to the Temple in spite of the message traps, diffused by the new Empire, announcing the end of the war and asking Jedi to return to the temple where death awaits them. At the control center of the Temple, Obi-Wan views the recordings of safety, in spite of the warnings of Yoda on sadness and the pain which these images will be able to inspire to him. It is extremely surprised to see Anakin, massacring Jedi, does not believe its eyes of them, refuses to admit what it sees, and crumbles… Yoda, as sympathizing as a Wroshyr tree, says to him that he had prevented it… He also affirms that they do not have an other choice only to destroy Sith, including Anakin Skywalker which joined their cause while becoming Dark Vador.

In the Mustafar system, Dark Vador massacres cold blood all the confederated separatists.

Obi-Wan seeks Anakin in the apartments of Padmé. Not finding it, it reveals with the young woman that Anakin joined the Obscure Side and killed the children of the Jedi Temple and that it is now of its duty to put it out of state to harm. Only, Padmé does not want to reveal where is Anakin, because he is the father of his child. Before leaving Obi-wan will say these words " It is him the father is not this… "

Later, Padmé leaves Coruscant in its vessel, leaving for Mustafar to join Anakin. However, Obi-Wan hid on board vessel before it takes off.

Padmé reaches Mustafar and embraces Anakin/Vador, which explains to him why it brought peace in the Republic, and that it can now get rid of Palpatine, so that him and Padmé can finally direct the Galaxy together and found " our Empire". Padmé explains to him why it follows a way that she refuses to borrow.

Vador sees Obi-Wan emerging from the vessel. Mad, it starts to strangle Padmé with the Force, showing it to have brought back Jedi to him. The first shock of the sabers represents the fundamental conflict of the entire Universe. The light against Darkness. The duel brings them to the large Arena of the Senate, deserted. Sidious sends capsule-living rooms on Yoda using the Force, ending up making it fall in the vacuum. With the assistance of Organa Lease, Yoda manages to flee announcing that he recognizes his defeat and that it is time for him to flee to hide.

After a long battle during which neither Obi-Wan nor Vador take the top, Obi-Wan ends up beating Sith whereas this one has just taken a risk while jumping over its former Master. Obi-Wan cuts of a blow of saber the two legs and the left arm of Vador, which collapses and rolls to the edge of a river of lava. Its clothing, torn during the combat, comes very close to surface of the lava and ignites, burning the near total of the skin of Anakin/Vador.

Obi-Wan says sadly to old the jedi how much this one had counted for pointing out him and him " You was the Elected official, it was you! You were to bring balance in the Force, not to condemn it to the night! ". Then this last takes the saber of its old padawan on the ground and embarks with Padmé on its vessel. Dark Vador will end up exclaiming of all its forces " I hate you!! "

Dark Sidious having felt the defeat of its apprentice arrives on Mustafar with a battalion of Stormtroopers. They save Dark Vador, at the edge of death.

On the lost asteroid of Polis Massed, Yoda contemplates and hears the voice of Which-Gon Jinn. The voice says to him that there is possible to use the Force to remain conscious after death. Luke and Leia will be separate so that Sith do not feel their presence. Leia will be adopted by Bail Organa. Luke will be sent to its family on Tatooine. Obi-Wan and Yoda will supervise and wait until time came. Yoda advises in Obi-Wan studied the technique of Which-Gon to reach immortality. (Note: in the version of film he says to him that he has a drive for him lasting his loneliness on Tatooïne, in order to communicate with his former Master.)

Bail Organa leaves R2-D2 and C-3PO to the guard of the Antilles captain of Tantive IV. He asks that they be cleaned that the memory of C-3PO is formatted.

On Naboo, the funeral of Padmé gives place to a solemn ceremony. In order to hide the birth of the twins, a false belly is slipped under its clothing.

On the bridge of a Star Destroyer, Dark Sidious now Emperor and the Grand Moff Tarkin are joined by Dark Vador; they observe the beginning of the construction of Star of Death.

On Alderaan, the Leia young person is brought back by Bail Organa to his wife, the Queen of Alderaan.

On Tatooine, Obi-Wan brings Luke Skywalker to its new family: Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru. They look at the horizon of Tatooine and observe the twin suns rising.

Note:

The large experts of weapons will note this detail: one of the models of weapon of infantry of the empire very strongly resembles a German MG42 of the second world war, or another weapon of the same family. This detail was already present in episode 2 etest present in episode 4.
