Stanmore
Stanmore is a district of the London district of Harrow, with London, England, taking the form of a suburban development located at 17.7 km, the North-West of Charing Cross.
One finds this district in the Domesday Book as a Stanmere , this drifting name of the Anglo-Saxon stan , “of stone” and mother , “basin”. There is, at this place, of the gravel outcrops on the clay soil, and mother was probably used to describe one of the many ponds which exist still today.
In 1574, the place accepted the name of Stanmore the Great (Large Stranmore) in opposition to Small Stanmore.
The station of Stanmore was opened with the trains between 1890 and 1952. Whereas the subway station Stanmore station opened in 1932.
These suburbs are characterized by its many small restaurants and coffees, several public buildings, and some shops of clothing. The center of Stanmore is dominated by the presence of the large supermarket of Sainsbury' S. the wide residential zones of Stanmore is flowered and knows a strong multitude, with many displacements of its inhabitants for the center of London and the City.
Stanmore shelters the Stanmore College (public) and a public library. It also lodges the Royal National Orthopedic Hospital - or RNOH - specialized in the Spinal column.
George Hamilton-Gordon, 4th count d' Aberdeen (with the capacity of December 1852 in February 1855) was raised and is buried in Stanmore.
Stanmore is also the birthplace of the British rockor peroxidizes Billy Idol, of the trainer of football Dave Bassett and of the footballer of Arsenal, Theo Walcott.
