Stanley Gibbons
Stanley Gibbons Ltd is a philatelic publisher British. It also sells postage stamps, material to collect them, and organizes auctions.
It was founded in 1856 by Edward Stanley Gibbons, then still apprentice in the paternal Pharmacie. The objective was to sell an important batch of triangular stamps of the Colonie of the Cape.
Since November 1865, it publishes catalogs of stamps, currently very famous among the Anglo-Saxon collectors. The catalogs Stanley Gibbons comprise quotations, but also give a great number of information on the stamps.
The monthly magazine Gibbons Stamp Monthly also dominates the philatelic magazines.
Since 1893, the company has its head office to the 399 Strand, in the center of London. In 1914, she was declared supplier royal ( royal warrant ) by the king George V.
In 2006, the company carried out pre-tax profits of 3,746 million pounds sterling. She carries out 54% of her sales in the United Kingdom. Internet accounts for 9% of its activity.
