Stanley Clarke

Stanley Clarke, born on June 30th, 1951 with Philadelphia, is an American musician . He plays primarily of the Contrebasse and the low electric.

Biography

Its beginnings

After having been graduate of the music school of Philadelphia, it leaves to New York in 1971 and starts to play with personalities of the world of the music such Horace Silver, Art Blakey, Dexter Gordon, Gato Barbieri, Joe Henderson, Pharoah Sanders, Gil Evans and Stan Getz.

Its career

It creates a group of Jazz fusion, Return to Forever, with the pianist Chick Corea, with whom it will leave several albums. At the same period, it starts to make albums solo.

It is known to have a very particular sound, due to the fact that it plays on the low ones of mark Alembic. It democratized the technique of the Slap, created originally by Larry Graham, by applying it to the Jazz.

In 1991, Stanley Clarke receives a BMI Film & TV Awards for the piece Black one Black crime in the film Boyz NR the Hood .
