Stanislas de Guaita

Stanislas de Guaita (April 6th 1861 - December 19th 1897) is a French occultist and poet, cofounder with Joséphin Péladan of the Ordre Kabbalistique of the Rosicrucian brotherhood .

Biography

Besides born in Lorraine, in Alteville in a castle close to Tarquimpol - notice the cross with its tie, Stanislas de Guaita was resulting from a noble family of origin lombarde (Italy), established in Lorraine since 1800. It had the title of Marquis.

As of the college with Nancy, towards 1880, it binds friendship with Maurice Barrès, which it will make adhere later to the Martinisme. The foreword of the one of the editions of To the threshold of the mystery is signed besides Maurice Barrès. The History does not say if the two men shared the same political convictions: Bars evolved/moved indeed of an individualistic esthetism to which its " testifies rather well; worship of Moi" with a nationalist and catholic mystic of the Earth and deaths, centered on Lorraine and republican patriotism. It is in the writings of Péladan that Stanislas de Guaita finds his first main door in the universe of the Tradition. Thereafter the reading of the work of Eliphas Lévi, of which it will consequently be made the commentator and the flatterer, initiates it with Christian mysticism; Fabre d' Olivet in general directs it towards the great mysteries and the Hebraic language; and Saint-Yves d' Alveydre rejoins it with the synarchical cause. Papus, initially scoffed by him for the choice at its pseudonym, then rehabilitated, will become a large friend.

In the light of all these influences, Guaita preached an exciting spiritualism the Christian Tradition, which, thanks to the possible installation of synarchy - the ideal shape of government -, was to lead to the advent of the kingdom of God. In 1888, in the same spirit, it founds with Péladan the Ordre Kabbalistique of the Rosicrucian brotherhood , of which made at once Papus part. Among the members one will belong to the names passed later to the posterity like Erik Satie and Claude Debussy or the banker of the artists, Olivier Dubs.

Satie seems to have been the appointed type-setter of the Order. One owes him inter alia a Sonnerie of the Rosicrucian brotherhood which was to accompany the ritual. Peladan separated some then to found another order: the '' catholic Rosicrucian brotherhood '', pleading its refusal of the operative magic.

In 1893, the order of Guaita was attacked by Huysmans, which showed it remotely envoûter the Lyons ex-abbot Joseph-Antoine Boullan. Duels followed; Huysmans and Jules Bois were opposed to Papus and Guaita.

Stanislas is then this young poet in the taste baudelairien with which Mendès had just revealed Eliphas Lévi, written Alain Mercier in the esoteric and occult Sources of poetry Symbolist, 1870-1914 (1969). Poisoned by the narcotics, the man died prematurely, the December 19th 1897, at the 36 years age. He was buried with the cemetery of Tarquimpol. Some claimed that he had succumbed so that one would call a overdose nowadays, but this thesis was contradicted to me by a family member. It would seem rather than it was carried by serious renal problems. In collaboration with its secretary and friendly Oswald Wirth, it carried out a Tarot which is always published at present under the name of Tarot of Wirth .
