Stanisław Wojciech Wielgus

Mgr Stanisław Wojciech Wielgus ( Stanisław Wielgus ), (born in 1939 with Wierzchowiska, close to Sandomierz), is a prelate Polish. He is named Archevêque Warsaw by the pope Benoît XVI the December 6th 2006, to succeed the cardinal Jozef Glemp. He takes up duty the January 5th 2007 but resigns the January 6th .

Biography

It was ordered priest in 1962 for the Diocèse of Lublin.

Parochial vicar of 1962 with 1969, it continued studies of philosophy. He studied in Lublin and the institute " Martin Grabmann " University of Munich (1973 - 1975 and 1978), especially history of medieval philosophy and philosophers Polish.

Since 1969, he taught with the faculty of philosophy of the catholic Université of Lublin. Starting from 1989, it was, during three successive mandates, vice-chancellor of the catholic university of Lublin.

Of 1999 with 2007, it is bishop of Plock.

Coldly appointed archbishop of Warsaw, Mgr Stanislaw Wielgus admitted on January 5th, 2007 having collaborated with the old communist political police Służba Bezpieczeństwa.

Wielgus wanting to obtain an authorization of exit of the territory to go to the University of Munich, the political police subjects it to the obligation to provide information in 1973, and agrees to be subjected to this obligation to obtain its exit visa.

In spite of the support of Radio Maryja and Lech Wałęsa, it presents its resignation to the pope Benoît XVI which accepts it on January 7th, 2007. The Glemp cardinal ensures the administration of the archdiocese in waiting of the nomination of the successor, the March 3rd, Mgr Kazimierz Nycz, bishop of Koszalin - Kołobrzeg.
