Standard of living
The standard of living refers to the quality and quantity of the Biens and services that an individual or a population can buy themselves.
Measure and definition
A measurement generally used of the standard of living, for a given zone, is the Revenu per capita real (i.e by taking of account the Inflation) by anybody. Sometimes of other measurements can be used, for example the access to some goods (like the number of refrigerators for 1000 people) or of measurements of health (like the Life expectancy).The concept of standard of living is different from that of Quality of life which does not only take counts of it the material standard of living, but which also integrates more subjective factors which take part in the human life, like the leisures, safety, the cultural resources, the mental health, etc Of the more complex means to measure the Bien-être must be employed to give such judgments; they are often political and thus prone to controversy.
Limit of the instrument
Like all Economic indicator, the standard of living has limits, and, within a population, does not allow to give an account of the Inégalités of income between individuals.
