The Etendard of Brest is a professional club French of Basket-ball based with Brest.
History
The May 19th 1952 is born " the Standard of Notre Dame of Good news of Kerinou" , a Patronage created by Joseph Tanguy. This club will change name into 1970 to become the Standard of Brest. A change which anticipates a beautiful rise since the club passes from departmental excellence to Nationale 3 of 1970 to 1974.In 1987, the team reaches the Nationale A2, but loses its mentor Joseph Tanguy who dies this year there. His/her son, Jean-Paul Tanguy will take his succession with the presidency in 1988.
In 1993, Brest goes up in Nationale A2, but will remain only one season there (with a difficult assessment of 3 victories for 31 defeats).
Then, the Standard will find in 1995 this Pro B which it will not leave any more until in 2005 and its rise in Pro has. Brest is, between 1995 and 2004 in basketball, of the fighting clubs each season for maintains (only tois participations in the Playoffs in 2001, 2004 and 2005) the fault with a budget often limited and the systematic departure of its best players during the off season. To survive, Brest practices a fast and unslung play, often neglecting defense.
In 1996, with the return of displacement to Roanne, Jean-Paul Tanguy dies in an car accident. His/her brother Yvon Tanguy, becomes the new president of the Standard during 4 years. He will succeed Eric Lemoine in 2000 and Christian Lemasson in 2002.
Then occurs the season 2004-05 where Yves-Marie Verove, trainer for 10 years with the club, will write, with the assistance of its sons Jimmy and Franck, more the beautiful story of the Standard of Brest.
It is the apotheosis! He thwarts all the forecasts; the team connects 17 consecutive victories (a national record ever reached), unconquered in residence, and to gain its place for a rise in Pro has (final assessment of 27 victories for 5 defeats). At the time of the finale with Bercy, Brest gains the title of Champion of France of Pro B vis-a-vis ALM Evreux Basket.
The season 2005-06 in Pro has is difficult and Brest redescent the following year (finishing penultimate with 7 victories for 27 defeats). The year 2006-07, with its new trainer; Ron Stewart, the Standard becomes a sure value of the second French division, being classified fifth but being made eliminate by Rouen with the first turn of the Playoffs.
