Standard Evening

The Evening Standard is a Quotidien published in London. It was launched the May 21st 1827 under the name of Standard , name which it will moreover take again for a period at the time of the years 1990 (certain local newspapers, meanwhile, also being called Evening Standard , a confusion became possible). The newspaper belongs to the group Daily Mail and General Trust and presents national information while stressing particularly the life in London, with its part This is London .

History of the daily newspaper

At the beginning of the 20th century, the owner of the newspaper was a press baron, the Canadian Lord Beaverbrook which had also the Daily Express. At that time, there were fourteen evening papers in London, but gradually they amalgamated, until there remain nothing any more but three about it. In 1960, Star gathers with Evening News , the two newspapers remaining were rival until in their turn they gather in the years 1980. In 1987, Evening News is built-in the Evening Standard , leaving London with only one and single evening paper. Nowadays, the name Evening News always appears all in top, on the right of the One of the Evening Standard , where it is marked " incorporating THE EVENING NEWS". Currently, the newspaper is the property of Daily Mail and General Trust, which also publishes Daily Mail, Mail one Sunday , Ireland one Sunday and Metro. The newspaper publishes four editions each day, except for bank holidays.

Since the years 1950, the sponsored daily newspaper the annual event Standard Evening Theater Awards and since the years 1970 organizes Evening Standard Pub off the Year (a bar or pub is rewarded each year by the readers, on the basis of reduced list already drawn up by the newspaper).

Max Hastings was the editor association of the daily newspaper of 1996, until its retirement in 2002 and current editor association is Veronica Wadley.

In 2004, Associated Newspapers (subsidiary of Daily Mail and General Trust ) launched a free version of the newspaper, Standard Lite . This publication of 48 pages (for roughly 80 pages for the Standard Evening ) has also supplements the majority of the days. This free version was designed for young readers, with headings " styles of vie" much more developed than in the version " classique". The approach is thus more practical and n the other hand, the news of the day and the economy part are excavated than in the Evening Standard . This version of the newspaper is on sale only until 14:30.
