Stamps of Saint-Pierre-and-Miquelon 2006
This article counts the stamps of Saint-Pierre-and-Miquelon emitted in 2006 by La Poste.
General information
As from January 2006, the mention of the country on the stamps changes: “SPM”, it becomes “SP&M Saint-Pierre & Miquelon”. The membership of the archipelago to the France remains present by initial “the RF” (for French Republic) and the mention “Stations” becomes “La Poste” (mention modified on the stamps of Metropolitan France since January 1989). The facial value is made out in Euro (€).The stamps are of use in this Collectivités of overseas French.
A philatelic commission chooses the topics of the stamps whose its artistic adviser, Marc Taraskoff since 2005, will supervise creation while being used as bond between the local artists, those of metropolis and the Imprimerie of the postage stamps and values fiduciary with Périgueux.
Tariffs
Here realizable stampings with a stamp emitted in 2006.The inland rates with the archipelago are those into force since June 1st, 2003. The inhabitants profit all from a P.0. box to recover their mail.
- 0,30 € : priority letter of less than 20 grams.
- 0,53 € : priority letter from 50 to 100 grams or parcel up to 100 grams.
The tariffs of the mails bound for the Metropolitan France and of the overseas French are modified on October 1st, 2006. The tariffs towards the two entities are different because of the air surtax. The priority mail travels exclusively by plane via the Canada, whereas the economic mail towards the metropolis can employ the boat. Here realizable stampings at October 1st, 2006:
- 0,53 € then 0,54 €: priority letter of less than 20 grams towards the metropolis and overseas.
The tariffs for the sendings abroad are those of October 1st, 2006. Two zones exist: zone 1 towards the Canada and the the United States and zone 2 for the rest of the world which, only, is given an economic tariff.
- 0,95 € : priority letter of less than 20 grams towards zone 2.
- 2 €: economic letter up to 100 grams towards zone 2.
- 4 € (diptych): economic letter from 250 to 500 grams towards zone 2.
- 4 €: assembling tax of recommendation to be added to the priority tariff.

January
The spray of choquette
January 25th, is emitted a stamp of 0,53 € on the “Poudrin of choquette”, a local expression. The stamp represents a snow-covered thicket of trees. According to Andree Lebailly (quoted on Internet site spmtimbres.com), the “spray of choquettes” is a local expression either picturesque for a wind of snow able to move cans (choquettes) thrown in the dustbins, or to indicate in a way exaggerated of the snowflakes.Photography is signed Patrick Boez and of 5,15 × 4 cm stamp it is printed in offset in sheet of ten specimens.
The seal first day dated January 25th watch one of the villages of the archipelago under snow.
According to an article of the newspaper of Montreal the Press , pulling is of 140.000 specimens.
February
The festival of the sailors
February 8th, is emitted a stamp of 0,53 € on the festival of the sailors. Photography shows a street animated during this celebration.Photography is of Patrick Boez and of 30,5 × 51,5 mm stamp it is printed in offset in sheet of 25 units.
March
Albert PEN 1935-2003
March 1st, day of its birthday, is emitted a stamp of 0,53 € in homage to Albert PEN, former senator of the archipelago. The stamp is erroneous since Albert PEN was born in 1931, and not 1935, according to its biography on the site of the Senate.Painting with the Sanguine of Patrick Derible, is engraved by Pierre Albuisson, for an impression in copper-plate engraving. The stamp of 2,6 × 4 cm is conditioned in sheet of 50 specimens.
The seal first day dated March 1st takes again the portrait of the senator.
April
The cachalot and the small fin-back whale
April 12th, two stamps are emitted. The first of 0,53 € presents the Petit fin-back whale (or Baleine of Minke) and the second of 1,15 € represents Cachalot S ( Physeter catodon ).The drawings of Patrick Derible are engraved by Claude Andréotto (0,53 €) and Claude Jumelet (1,15 €). The stamps of 4,05 × 3 cm are printed in Taille-douce in sheet of 25 specimens.
The seal first day dated April 12th represents the profile of the two marine animals.
May
June
Atmosphere
June 7th, is emitted a stamp of 0,30 € on an atmosphere of the archipelago. Photography shows, between low greenery and ocean, three coloured houses.The illustration is signed Baptiste Vogenstahl. The stamp of 3,6 × 2,2 cm is printed in offset in sheet of fifty units.
The large migrating ones: the Arctic seagull
June 14th, is emitted a stamp of 2,53 € illustrated of three specimens of Arctic Goéland (of its scientific name, Larus glaucoides ): a profile of the head, one in flight and nozzle in water.The stamp is drawn by Jean-Jacques Oliviéro and is engraved by Claude Andréotto. Of format 4,8 × 2,7 cm, it are printed in Taille-douce in sheet of twenty-five specimens.
The seal first day of June 14th represents a seagull in full flight, seen of lower part.
The Archipelago with the Senate
June 20th, is emitted a stamp of 0,53 € whose illustration imagines the Palais of Luxembourg, seat of the Sénat to Paris, at the edge of the ocean. The stamp is emitted at the time of an exposure Saint-Pierre-and-Miquelon and its philately: treasures to discover with the palate of Luxembourg, organized from June 20th to 23rd by the senator Denis Detcheverry, the executive director of the Station overseas Nicole Carrel and the chief of the postal service of the archipelago Philippe Guizot.The stamp is the work of the illustrator and artistic adviser of the philatelic Commission of the archipelago Marc Taraskoff. Of format 4,8 × 3,6 cm, the stamp printed in offset are conditioned in sheet of ten specimens.
July
Prohibition
July 19th, is emitted a stamp of 0,75 € illustrating one historical period of the history of the archipelago: the Prohibition of the alcohol to the the United States of 1920 to 1933. The stamp seems to show a boat out of bottle, by the neck of which one very clearly distinguishes a scene from alcohol smuggling.The stamp of 4,8 × 3,6 cm is designed by Jean-Claude Girardin for an impression in offset in sheet of ten.
The Smallone
July 26th, is emitted a diptych of two stamps of 2 € each one with a central label. The unit represents the landscape of the locality of the Small-Barachois , on the island of Langlade.The emission is drawn by Michel Borotra and is engraved by Jean-Yves Beaujard for an impression in Taille-douce in sheet of five diptychs.
With the philatelic Living room of autumn of 2006 in Paris, this emission receives the Grand Prix of philatelic Art of the departments and overseas territories.
August
Centenary of the pediment
August 23rd, is emitted a stamp of 0,53 € for the centenary of the construction of the Basque pediment of Pelote by local association Zazpiak-Beats. The event coincides with the 25e Basque festival.The stamp of 4,8 × 2,7 cm is created by Patrick Boez and is printed in offset in sheet of twenty-five.
September
Orchises
September 6th, is emitted a band of four stamps of 0,53 € on orchises, from left to right: Spiranthe de Romanzoff, Arethusa , Habénaire butterfly and Habénaire lacerated.The stamps of 2,2 × 3,6 cm are drawn by Daniel Abraham and are engraved by Pierre Albuisson (spiranthe of Romanzoff), Claude Jumelet (habénaire lacerated) and Eve Luquet ( Arthusa and habénaire butterfly). Printed in Copper-plate engraving, they are conditioned at a rate of five bands per sheet.
The Dugué farm
September 20th, is emitted a stamp of 0,95 € on the Dugué farm, farm and locality of the archipelago. The two farm buildings are represented and bovine which graze.The stamp of 4,8 × 2,7 cm is drawn by Jean Claireaux and is engraved by Jacky Larrivière for an impression in Taille-douce in sheet of twenty-five.
October
Penny Fair
October 4th, to close the series of the Stray started in 2000, is emitted a stamp of 0,95 € on the Naufrage of the Penny Fair .The stamp of 4,8 × 2,7 cm is drawn by Jean Claireaux and is engraved by Eve Luquet for an impression in Taille-douce.
November
Fast patrol boats of Saint-Pierre-and-Miquelon
November 18th, is emitted a block of four stamps of 0,54 € representing fast patrol boats having been or being in service in the archipelago. It is about the Anahitra , of Saint-Eugene V , the Maria Galanta and the Atlantic Jet , all represented in action.The block is designed by Raphaëlle Goineau. The stamps of 5,2 × 3,1 cm are printed in offset.
December
Christmas
December 6th, is emitted a stamp of Christmas of 0,54 € representing an aspect of a Christmas tree decorated by two swell on which reflect an island covered with snow on red bottom and the Father Christmas on his Traîneau on the yellow ball.The stamp of 2,7 × 4,8 cm is drawn by Isabelle Lafargue and is printed in offset in sheet of twenty-five specimens.
