Cérès, 40 centimes orange
February 3rd, is emitted the third postage stamp not notched of France. It is with the standard Cérès, of a value of 40 centimes and orange color. The emission of one 40 centimes blue was envisaged at January 1st, 1849, but was delayed to assign blue to the stamp of 20 centimes. There exists a variety famous, known as from the “4 improved”. With box 146 and 147 of the sheets, two stereotypes of 20 centimes included by error were improved.
The creator of the illustration is the engraver Jacques-Jean Barre. These stamps are printed in Typographie flat, in sheet of three hundred specimens, divided into two panels of 150 stamps (15 lines of 10 stamps).
Pulling rises to approximately 4,1 million stamps. This one started as of April 1849, but the emission is delayed time to point out the a red franc of clear nuance known as “vermilion”, too near to orange, under lightings of the time.
The 40 centimes “Cérès” is replaced by a of the same stamp value and of the same color with the effigy of the Emperor Napoleon III in September 1853.
There exists no head-digs in the panels of impression used.

Cérès, 25 centimes blue
July 1st, following the modification of the tariff of the letters between two French cities (office at office), is emitted not notched the fourth stamp of France to the standard Cérès of 25 centimes and color blue. It replaces with this use the 20 centimes black. Its emission makes finally useless the stock of 20 centimes blue printed in April 1849 which is destroyed in July 1851.
The creator of the illustration is the engraver Jacques-Jean Barre. These stamps are printed in Typographie flat, in sheet of three hundred specimens, divided into two panels of 150 stamps (15 lines of 10 stamps).
Pulling is higher than 45 million specimens (41 million for the 20 centimes black, its predecessor for the letter of less than 7,5 grams bound for France). It is replaced in September 1852 by one 25 centimes blue with the standard president Louis-Napoleon Bonaparte.
There exists head-digs in the panel of impression n°2, fault of calculation exact of pullings by panels, the number of pairs with head-digs is estimated at 136.000. One does not know that only one block of four with head-digs on a letter.
Cérès, 15 centimes green
Theoretical emission on July 1st, 1850. But they will be printed and delivered with delay, the oldest date of to date known use is on July 29th, 1850. This fifth stamp not notched of France to the standard Cérès with a value of 15 centimes is of green color on green paper clearly tinted in the mass. It is sold with Paris to free the letters from less than 7,5 grams posted in and bound for the capital (specific tariff). It is rare on letters for the foreigner and in province. The creator of the illustration is the engraver Jacques-Jean Barre. The stamp is printed in Typographie flat, in sheet of three hundred specimens, divided into two panels of 150 stamps (15 lines of 10 stamps).
Pulling is approximately 3,3 million stamps, the stamps will be sold until exhaustion of stock. It is replaced on July 1st, 1853 by the use of stamps (standard president Louis-Napoleon Bonaparte, then standard Empire) to 10 centimes browned color, following the lowering of the tariff of the letters circulating in Paris intramurally .
This stamp little used presents one of the greater scarcity of the stamps of France . At the time of the constitution of the board of impression, a label was laid out with back, creating “head-digs”. This fact either is not exceptional, almost all the first stamps of France have one or more head-digs. But in the case of the green cérès 15c, seule' a single pair is connue' , on a letter in addition. No other was discovered, to date. However, considering the discovery in 1999 of not emitted the cérès 40 centimes blue, 150 years after its impression, it is possible that a new pair is discovered one day (6110 pairs with head-digs exist in theory. according to the pulling of the stamp).

Cérès, 10 centimes bistre-yellow
September 12th (older known date of use this day), is emitted a stamp not notched with the standard Cérès of 10 centimes color bistre-yellow on paper darkens clearly, tinted in the mass. It makes it possible to generalize the use of the stamp for the letters of less than 7,5 grams bound for the same postal district and of less than 15 grams circulating in the same city, like constituting more combination of tariffs. The creator of the illustration is the engraver Jacques-Jean Barre. The stamp is printed in Typographie flat, in sheet of three hundred specimens, divided into two panels of 150 stamps (15 lines of 10 stamps).
Total pulling is approximately 17 million specimens. The 10 Cérès centimes is replaced by the 10 centimes president Louis-Napoleon Bonaparte of same values and colors, emitted in December 1852.
The board of impression comprises three stamps “head-digs”, the number of potentially printed pairs is of 170.000.
Although it is chronologically the last emitted stamp of the first series of Cérès, it is often affublé of number 1 in the catalogs of quotation.
Stamps remained with the state of project
A stamp with a facial value of 50 centimes is initially envisaged (inland rate for a letter of 7,5g with 15g) but it will remain only with the state of project, its design being stopped by the production of a new series in 1852 = the stamps known as " Présidence" (effigy of Prince Louis Napoleon Bonaparte, first president of the French Republic). In the same way a stamp with 30 centimes is considered (tariff “sails round” Paris for Paris) but will be never carried out.
