Stamp concepts

The matrices of concepts are a conceptual tool worked out by the philosopher Paul Franceschi and which propose to constitute an alternative to the Carré semiotics defined by Greimas. With the difference in the semiotic square, a matrix of concepts is composed of 6 concepts, of which two are neutral, two are positive and two are negative. The relations enter the 6 concepts of the same matrix are the following ones:

  • A0 and Ā0 is duaux or opposite; A+ and Ā- are contrary; Has and Ā+ are contrary
  • A+ and Ā+ are complementary, just as Ā- and Ā-
  • A+ and Has are corollary; just as Ā+ and Ā-
  • A0 and A+ are related, just as A0 and Has, Ā0 and Ā+, Ā0 and Ā-

The applications of the matrices of concepts relate to the paradigmatic Analyze, but also the dialectical Plan, as well as the study of the concepts in general.

Application

Here an example applied to the concepts related to opposition the multidisciplinary/mono-disciplinary interest . The corresponding matrix includes/understands the 6 following concepts:
  • éclectisme+

  • interest pluridisciplinaire0
  • dispersion
  • expertise+
  • interest mono-disciplinaire0
  • bulk-heading

It follows then the following relations between these 6 concepts:

  • mono-disciplinaire0 interest pluridisciplinaire0 and interest is duaux

  • éclectisme+ and bulk-heading, just as dispersion and expertise+ are contrary
  • éclectisme+ and expertise+, just as dispersion and bulk-heading are complementary
  • éclectisme+ and dispersion, just as expertise+ and bulk-heading are corollary
  • interest pluridisciplinaire0 and éclectisme+, interest pluridisciplinaire0 and dispersion, mono-disciplinaire0 interest and expertise+, mono-disciplinaire0 interest and bulk-heading are related
