Stalemate Martin

Patrick (Stalemate) Martin (born the December 13rd 1955 with Winnipeg, with the Manitoba) is a Canadian Politician . He is Député with the House of Commons of Canada since 1997, representing the district of Winnipeg-Center for the Nouveau Democratic party.

Martin finishes his secondary studies in Argyle High School in 1974. He works like companion carpenter during several years, and traville in forest, mining industries and of construction. Martin is also used as manager of businesses of the Trade union of the carpenters of Manitoba as 1989 with 1997, and is vice-president of the Federation of the workers of Manitoba during a certain time.

Martin is initially elected with the House of Commons of Canada at the time of the federal election of 1997, demolishing the liberal deputy outgoing David Walker by a margin of 10.979 votes against 9.895. Its district of Winnipeg-Center, before known under the name of Winnipeg-Center-North, had successively been represented of 1921 with 1984 by J.S. Woodworth and Stanley Knowles, two of the most important politicians social-democrats in the Canadian history. The victory of Martin over Walker turns over the district to the NPD for the first time since 1988.

Martin is re-elected in the federal election of 2000, demolishing the popular liberal Kevin Lamoureux by 11.263 votes against 9.310. He increases his margin of victory to the election of 2004, demolishing the candidate-high-speed motorboat liberal David Northcutt by approximately 3.000 votes.

Martin is a speaker clear and articulated with the House of Commons, and is recognized for his solid work in his district. It defends the rights of the workers and the Canadian autochtones, and denounces the legislative vacuums allowing the tax avoidance from the companies. He supported the candidature of Bill Blaikie for the direction of the NPD in 2002-2003.

He claimed the resignation of Svend Robinson of the file of the foreign affairs of the NPD in 2002 after the discussed visit of the NPD to the Palestinian Autorité.
