He played 119 matches with the team of Northern Ireland of football as a guard (recordman of the selections in its country), during a career total 22 years. He will have played more than 1000 matches in club and marked even a goal at the time of the match of Charity Shield in 1967.
He begins his career at the 16 years age in the club of Newry Town. He comes then in England to the Watford FC in May 1963. He will dispute all the matches of championship and will be bought thereafter by Tottenham Hotspur for £27 000. He will spend 13 years to the club for 472 matches of championships. He will gain in particular the F Cup in 1967, the League Cup in 1971 and 1973, and the UEFA Cup in 1972.
In August 1977, it is sold to the rivals of Tottenham, Arsenal. During its eight years with the Gunners , Jennings appeared in 237 matches. With Highbury, it helped Arsenal to reach three successive finales of F Cup in 1978, 1979, and 1980. However, Arsenal only managed to gain the second of these finales, a victory 3-2 against Manchester United.
Jennings is regarded today as a legend and one of the best goalkeepers British of all times.
