Stahlhelm

Stahlhelm , German term meaning Helmet Steel, which indicates the helmet of German form, developed towards the end of the 15th century in Wrought iron and reintroduced at the end of 1915, out of steel, to replace the Spiked helmet , manufactured in Cuir, on the battle field. It is a component of the image of the German Soldat of the Second world war.

It protects the head from the soldier, the Sapeur-pompier and the German police force during the war of 1939 - 1945. One finds also his form in some of engravings of Albrecht Dürer.

Stahlhelm, Bund der Frontsoldaten

Having returned in Germany after the Armistice of 1918, some of the former German soldiers felt separate civilians by their experiments with the War. They joined in a Bund or association, former soldiers of the face. This association was called the Stahlhelm according to the helmet which had differentiated them from the civilians. This association became part of the complex policy of the rise of the Parti national-Socialist the German workers. In the years 1935, Hitler and the German Minister for the Speer armament chose in their turn this model of helmet, because not only emblematic of the German soldier, it allows also a total protection of the head.

Several models of helmets were developed as from 1935 (as in 1939 and 42)
