The Stade of Switzerland Wankdorf Bern was inaugurated the July 30th 2005. It is of a commercial complex and a football stadium whose construction cost 370 million Swiss francs. It replaced the old stage which had been built in 1925 and had accommodated the Football world cup of 1954.
History

1925 : completion of the first stage of Wankdorf, offering 22.000 places. November 8th takes place the first international match: Switzerland-Austria 2-0.

1930 : first final of the Cut of Switzerland: Young-servant boys-Aarau 1:0.

1939 : the capacity is carried in 42.000 places. The stage is flanked of its two legendary turns of angle which become its symbol.

1954 : the transformations operated for the World cup make it possible to accommodate from now on 64.000 spectators. The final of the World cup (Germany-Hungary 3-2) gives him a world famous.

1961 : May 31st, Wankdorf for the first time the theater of a final of the Cut of Europe of the champions: Benfica Lisbon-FC Barcelona 3-2.

1989 : May 10th proceeds the final of the Cut of the winner of cut (Barcelona-Sampdoria Genoa 2:1).

1997 : with 72 percent of majority, the electorate of the town of Bern approves a change of plan of zone in the district of Wankdorf, thus allowing the construction of a new stage.

1999 : the three architects Rodolphe Luscher, Jean-Pierre Schwaar and Felix Rebmann gain the open contest of architecture for the installation of the complex of Wankdorf.

2001 : demolition of the old stage.

2005 : inauguration of the new stage, under the name of Stage of Switzerland Wankdorf Bern.
