Stage of Sclessin
The stage Maurice Dufrasne , or stage of Sclessin , accommodates the matches Standard of Liege. The name of the stage is that of the fifth president of the Standard of Liege, according to 1909 to 1931, but it is better known in Belgium under the name of stage of Sclessin, district of the agglomeration Liégeoise where it is located. The stage is along the Meuse, not far from the factories Arcelor Mittal, which gives an atmosphere particular to the " cauldron of Sclessin ". This stage is commonly called the Hell of Sclessin in connection with the known supporters liégois to be among the supporters " chauds" from Belgium.
History
The first stage of the Standard of Liege was built in 1909. In 1925, the capacity of the stage was carried in 20.000 places. In 1940, one ériga a large concrete platform upright of 10.000 places. The maximum capacity of the stage was reached in 1973 with 43.000 places. In 1985,1992 and 1995 took place of the important restorations at the time which three new platforms were built. In 2006 the lawn was renewed and equipped with an electric heating system.
Today
To accommodate the Euro 2000, the stage was transformed once again into 1999 to become splendid a " temple of the football" , with the colors red and white of the local club, with 30.023 sitted places. In 2006, the stage was equipped with a very new lawn heated for an amount of more than one million euros. The Standard of Liege, vice-champion of Belgium in 2006, is known for its capacity to gather supporters come from the four corners of Belgium in spite of the linguistic border.
The supporters Liégeois are famous for their enthusiasm, like the town of Liege to be the " city ardente".
