HistoryThe club is founded in 1906 and evolves/moves in very raised championship of the Pyrenees. In 1923, its place of finalist of Second Series enables him to take part for the first time in the championship of France of the category (equivalent of the Second Division), In 1926, by the play of the reorganizations of the competitions, the Second Series became the Fourth Division. Lavelanet reaches the final in 1927, but is inclined vis-a-vis the Olympique carmausin (0-16). The year according to is the good one, the Yellow and Black beat the USC Vichy 19-3 and gain their first national title, after having gained the regional title.
In 1945, Lavelanet starts its rise towards the tops with a victory in championship of the Pyrenees of Second Series. The dedication arrives on May 9th, 1948, when the Stage beats its old rival, US Carmaux finally 10-0. This representative of a small town of Ariège (less than 7.000 inhabitants) force then admiration while succeeding in being maintained regularly in the First Division since the Fifties until the end of the Seventies. He plays even a semi-final against the Mons Stade in 1953, then a quarterfinal against Romans in 1955.
Ten years after the accession, it is the descent (1959). The Stage waits ten years to again press the lawns of the First Division, following its victory over the SO Montpellier in quarterfinal in 1968. During ten years - again - Lavelanet fights with the large arm of French Rugby and manages to be qualified with three recoveries for the final stages with a beautiful regularity every two years (1971, 1973,1975). The club leaves the elite in 1978, goes up in 1985, but must definitively forget more the high level in 1987. A thirty years adventure ends.
The Stage however continues to exist at the lower levels, in Group B, before tumbling down until the Honneur championship (regional) in 1996. It goes up in Main road 3 in 1998, then in Main road 2 in 2001, then finally in Fédérale 1 in 2002. It there maintenance three seasons before relapsing in Federal 2 in 2005.
Lavelanet always constituted a pretty seedbed. Several international left its school of Rugby, like Patrick Estève, Jean-Louis Jordana or Benoît Baby. As Fabien Barthez, if it were made known by the round ball, this pure Lavelanétien juice touched Rugby in its birthplace and it is perhaps not a chance if it chose the only station where one has the right to take the balloon with the hand…
