The Stade Toulousain is a French general sports club based in Toulouse whose principal section is that of Rugby to XV which takes part in the SIGNAL 14. This article relates to only this section of Rugby to XV.
History
Foundation at the extreme end of the 19th century by students anarchist-trade unionists of a section Rugby within the general sports club of the “Olympian Stage of the Toulouse students”. This very recent running anarchistic Communist, he will inherit his colors (red and black) which by chance are also those of the capitouls and of the name of the first stage: the red virgin (Louise Michel). Under this 1st name (SOET), the club disputes the finale of the championship of France 1903. The Students amalgamate with the rugbymen school veterinary surgeon de Toulouse, the “Stade Toulousain” bears its current name since 1907.The March 31st 1912, at the Stage of the Bridge-Twins of Toulouse, the Stade Toulousain beats the Racing Club of France, on the score of 8 - 6. It is about the first title of champion of France gained by the Toulouse ones. Having finished the season unconquered, one gave him the nickname of Vierge Red . It was then necessary to wait 10 years to see the Stade Toulousain empocher a new title. Over six seasons, it gained five championships then.
In spite of a short revival in the immediate future post-war period ( the team of the butchers , unconquered during the season 1947), it was necessary to await the medium of the Années 1980 so that the club becomes again the element-headlight of the French championship. During these twenty last years indeed, the Stade Toulousain was even one of all the best clubs of Europe. Since 1985, it raised the Bouclier of Brennus to nine recoveries, including four consecutive of 1994 with 1997. It was also the first club to gain the Coupe of Europe. Currently, the Stade Toulousain holds at least two other records: that of the number of titles of Champion of France (16, in front of the French Stage, 13, and the ACE Béziers, 11), and that of the number of victories in Cut of Europe (3). Moreover, Toulouse is the only European club to have taken part in all the editions of the Heineken Cup since its creation (either eleven, with the season 2005/2006). It is that which disputed the most matches in this competition (72 at the date of the finale 2005), and which marked the greatest number of points, as well as the greatest number of tests. In 1998, the team registered the greatest number of tests on a match (sixteen), the greatest number of items (108), and made a success of the most important margin (differential of eighty twelve), the whole at the time of the meeting vis-a-vis Ebbw Vale. Michel Marfaing holds the record of the greatest number of tests marked in the competition: 24 (Emile Tamack follows it, with 22 achievements). The club counts to date more than 90 international, selected throughout its rich person history.
The Stade Toulousain has important means, and chapeaute seven sporting sections different (mainly Rugby and tennis). He is owner of his stage, the Stade Ernest-Walloon commonly called Stade of the 7 Sums of money, of the name of the district éponyme. This last, built in 1978-79, was recently renovated, and has a capacity of 19.500 places. Even if it is one of the greatest stages of French Rugby, the Stage Ernest-Walloon is sometimes too small. For the largest posters (championship, cut of Europe, or match of play-off), the Stade Toulousain is exiled sometimes in its neighbor of the Toulouse Football Club and plays Stadium then, of a double capacity (38000 places approximately). In all, the Stade Toulousain gained 18 victories there.
In this year 2007, the Stade Toulousain celebrates its centenary raised by new colors: black with three stars of the cut of Europe and more single star of the club of the century and a pale pink shirt.
100 years after its creation, the Stage they is 16 championships of France, 3 cuts of Europe, a stage (Ernest Wallon) of 19000 places with an average of 19050 spectators per match, 9578 subscribers (in 2006/2007), 250 companies partners, 117 international and 41% of the players of team 1 who come from the Training center.
