Stableford

The Stableford is one of the methods of calculation of the points at the time of part of Golf. This system is conceived to eliminate the extremes, and thus not too much not to penalize a beginner who would miss a blow completely.

History

The Stableford method known and played in the whole world was invented by Doctor Frank Stableford (Wallasey & Royal Liverpool Golf Clubs) in 1898. But it was only the May 16th 1932 which the first competition in Stableford was played on the Wallasey Links.

Description

With the golf, each hole has one “BY”, which corresponds to the ideal number of blows to achieve the hole in question.

While playing in Stableford, a player receives:

  • 4 points if he played two blows or less in lower part of BY (eagle);
  • 3 points if he played a blow in lower part of BY (birdie);
  • 2 points if he played it BY;
  • 1 point if it is a blow with the top of BY (bogey);
  • 0 points if it is two or several blows with the top of BY (double bogey).

Thus it is not allotted negative points, with the result that moment when the player reached the stage where it cannot have points any more, it can raise his ball, which makes it possible to avoid very high scores.

At the beginning of a part a player can receive blows (strokes). Thus if a player receives 2 blows, to make 2 Stableford points, it should not make BY but double bogey, triple bogey to make a point, bogey to make 3 points and so on.
