Previously named Museum antiker Kleinkunst , the museum, severely damaged by the bombardments at the time of the Second world war, was restored and reopened with the public in 1967 under its current name.
The exposed collections come partly from the bottom bequeathed by Louis Ier of Bavaria, which gathers many daily objects (terra cotta, jewels, bronzes, glasses, etc). The collection of ceramic Greek is re-elected in the whole world.
The direction of Antikensammlungen is located at the Haus der Kulturinstitute.
