Biography
Stéphan Oliva is pointed out in 1991 by recording with its trio (Claude Tchamitchian with the Contrebasse and Jean-Pierre Jullian with the battery) the disc " November ". It obtains in 1992 the Django " hope of the year 92".
In 1993, It records in solo the album " Clearly obscure ". In 1996, it records in trio, with Bruno Chevillon with the double bass and François Merville with the battery, a homage to the music of Bill Evans and Scott LaFaro. In 1998, it records an album in solo for the series Jazz' N (E) motion (improvisation on film musics).
In 1997, it occurs with the beater Paul Motian. Two albums are recorded later in trio with Motian and Chevillon: Fantasm (2000) and Intérieur harms .
With the pianist François Raulin, they record two albums devoted to the music of Lennie Tristano: one in duet (Tristano , 1999) and one in septet ( Seven variations on Lennie Tristano , 2002)
In 2003, it records in quintet the album " imaginary route ". The same year, it accompanies the singer Linda Sharrock, then Suzanne Abbuehl.
Stéphan Oliva also wrote film musics: Cold like a summer of Jacques Shirt and music for the republication in dvd of Spitz , a silent film of Georg Wilhelm Pabst.
Stéphan Oliva carries out in parallel a career of teacher (many " master classes") and of lecturer (on the music with the cinema, the jazz, etc).
