Sravaka

The śrāvaka is a Buddhist who practices starting from the lesson of a Bouddha. Its goal is to reach the Nirvāna.

Among the śrāvaka, four more or less advanced noble beings are distinguished:

  • the Sotapanna
  • the Sakadagamin
  • the Anagamin
  • the Arhat, which will not reappear any more.

DEBATEs

Such a listener does not discover the doctrines by itself but the bracket with his own release. If the practice leads it to develop love and generosity, it does not work however with the hello of all the beings, contrary to the Bodhisattva. The statute of the listener marks initially the opposition between Bouddhisme theravâda and Bouddhisme mahâyâna.

The Sûtra S report sometimes how the laic ones reach the nirvana with the hearing of the one of the sermons of the Buddha. The statute of the listener also implies debate as for the nature of the sangha, and more precisely raises the question of which can reach the awakening.
