Square (cryptography)

Square (sometimes written SQUARE ) is a algorithm of Chiffrement of block designed by Joan Daemen and Vincent Rijmen. Its specifications, published in 1997, formed a base for the algorithm Rijndael of the same authors, a coding which was adopted at the time of the Concours AES within the framework of the new standard Advanced Encryption Standard .

It is based on a Réseau of substitution-permutation with 8 turns and the blocks of 128 bits. The key has 128 bits. The algorithm was the subject of no patent.

Square was introduced at the same time as a new named form of Cryptanalyse the square Attaque worked out by Lars Knudsen.
