History
EC. 1/7 Provence is resulting from the Groupe of Hunting 1/7 formed with Dijon in 1932. This GC takes again the traditions of two escadrilles of the First World War: the SPA 15 (Helmet of Bayard) and the SPA 77 (Cross of Jerusalem). In January 1939, the GC 1/7 settles in Tunisia, then in Egypt after the armistice of 1940. It is finally dissolved in October 1942.
The GC 1/7 is reformed in September 1943 on Spitfire MK VB and takes part in the combat in North Africa, then in the Corsica countryside of and the Débarquement of Provence. It is at this time that it receives the denomination of GC 1/7 Provence . At the end of the Second world war, the unit obtains the Military Cross 39-45 with palm. The GC 1/7 receives first Mistral in April 1953, takes part in the Guerre of Algeria then passes on Mystère IV on the basis of Dijon. It is dissolved in September 1961.
The Escadron of Hunting 1/7 Provence is recreated in March 1962 on the Air base 133 Nancy-Ochey, always equipped with Mystery IV. In 1973, the squadron is the first unit of the Air force to be passed on SEPECAT Jaguar and is installed on the Air base 113 Saint-Dizier-Robinson. The Jaguar of the 1/7 Provence are engaged at the time of missions of combat in particular in Mauritania (1978), with the Chad (years 1980), at the time of the Guerre of the Gulf (1990-1991) then in Bosnia. Following the dissolution of EC. the 2/11 Vosges, EC. 1/7 Provence receives one 3rd flotilla: the SPA 91 (Eagle encroaching a death's-head) in December 1996.
The squadron recovers in July 2001 some Jaguar two-seaters and the Alpha Jet in the past used by the EC. 2/7 Argonne which is dissolved. Attached to the SPA 91, the Alpha Jet preserve their coding in 7-Px and are useful with the drive or at the time of exercises. The Jaguar are withdrawn from the service in July 2005 and are replaced by the first Rafale one year later. In January 2007, twenty Rafale B and C were in service to the 1/7 Provence. Three of them were deployed with Douchanbé with the Tadjikistan on March 12th, carrying out their first mission of combat two days later to the top of the Afghanistan.
In September 2007, the Alpha Jet are transferred with the Escadron 5/2 Gold Coast, new unit intended for the drive and various additional missions.
