History
It is in 1898 that two brothers, Jacobus and Hendrik-Jan Spijker, which had an automobile body shop in Hiversum (Netherlands) built their first car with Benz engine with which they quickly attracted the eye for the style of their body.
The same year, the Spijker brothers always build a famous coach - `golden delicious state coach' - in service today, to commemorate the next crowning of the Dutch queen, Wilhelmina.
The brothers then invested themselves entirely in the automobile production. Trade name was changed into Spyker, for an easier identification on the overseas markets.
In 1903, Spyker 1903 presented the 60/80 HP - the first car with an engine six-cylinder car, with four permanent driving wheels and a brake on the four wheels. The image of Spyker will increase further when in 1907 a standard model, the 14/18HP Tourer has finishes celebrates it Paris-Beijing in the second place.
During the First World War (1914-1918) the world recession on the market of the luxury car has constrained Spyker to diversify its production and to amalgamate with Dutch factory N.V. Aviation to develop and build a fighter plan.
After the Spyker war took again its production of cars. Spyker then launched out in the construction of models able to beat all the records. Most famous of the latter is Spyker C4 which had a special engine, designed by famous German engineer Wilhelm Maybach.
In 1921, standard C4 (frame n°C41, engine n°3201) established a new record of distance, traversing - without interruption - a distance of 30.000 kilometers during 36 days.
In 1925, Spyker Company ceased existing, but its name was never forgotten.
Mark starts again
It is at the dawn of the 21e century - in October 2000 - which the mark reappeared - at the time of the Living room of Birmingham where Spyker C8 Spyder was presented. In the middle of the Nineties, Dutch engineer Martin de Bruijn produced Silvertris, a first prototype using the engine of Audi has 8. In 1997, the meeting with the Dutch business man Victor Muller, owner of manufacturing of McGregor textile and large amateur of cars, was decisive. A new business Dutchwoman Spyker Cars was created, but not having a bond with old Spyker except the right to use the mark.
