Spy, rises is a Film French of Yves Boisset, left in 1982.

Synopsis

Zurich (Swiss), September 1981. Sebastien Grenier (Lino Ventura) has been an old French secret agent of the Service of Documentation and Against-Espionage (SDECE), in sleep for eight years. He directs to Zurich a fiduciary company, and shares the life of Anna Gretz (Krystyna Janda), young allemande professor of comparative literature whose ideas gauchists are clearly posted.

One morning, he learns by the radio that a man with whom he had appointment, Alfred Zimmer, has just been cut down in a tram by a commando of the Brigades of Popular Action, dispensary Trotskyste in activity in Zurich. He receives by the post office the afternoon even the book Twenty years after of Alexandre Dumas, marked on page 138, code by which he understands that he was " réveillé" by its superiors.

Presenting itself to go agreed, it with surprised to be approached by a certain Jean-Paul Chance (Michel Piccoli), Master of the requests near the Federal council of Bern, which is presented in the form of a its treating officer. This one, very quite well informed on the past of Attic, requires of him to reassemble the Zimmer die to know by which are controlled the Popular Brigades of Action.

Anxious, Grenier launches the code of emergency procedure in the form of an advertisement in the '' Tages Anzeiger ''. There still, it is Chance which arises to go… This last makes him understand that it awoke it because of the contacts of Anna Gretz with certain elements of the Brigades of Popular Action, by repeating to him that it works for Paris.

Attic alerts then his/her friend Henri Marchand (Bernard Fresson), another agent of the SDECE, in order to ask for the pedigree of Chance to him. Merchant promises to him to say to him quickly if, indeed, Chance is their hierarchically superior. At the time of his return to Paris, Marchand is assassinated. Attic then decides enfreindre the official channels and goes to Munich to meet there Meyer (Heinz Bennent), homosexual librarian who is also an agent of the SDECE. Whereas it turns over to the news the following day, it arrives at the Library of Munich whereas Meyer has just been assassinated him also…

Of return to Zurich, it is accommodated with the airport by Chance, dissatisfied with these steps. The evening even, he is contacted by an agent sent of Paris, Richard (Bruno Cremer). The following day, it meets Richard who teaches him that Chance is a Soviet spy who tries to turn over it. It specifies to him that Paris is not for nothing in its " réveil".

On these entrefaits, the Brigades of Popular Action assassinate the adviser Kieffer, federal senior official, whereas it leaves a visit to the University of Zurich. Anna Gretz and several of his/her colleagues gauchists are stopped by the Swiss police force. Chance then proposes in Grenier to make play its political relations in order to make release Anna Gretz. It makes pressure on the police chief Lehmann (Roger Jendly) who agrees to release the partner of Attic. Chance then explains to Grenier why Richard is in fact colonel Ermontov, officer of the KGB, and asks him to help it to neutralize it.

Not knowing more which to accept, Grenier decides to try to flee. It recovers a pair of false passports which it had preserved and announces in Anna Gretz that they will leave the Europe and that they must leave immediately while giving up all at once. Anna agrees to follow it but obtains from him to telephone before his/her mother. Whereas it is in a public cabin, it is removed by a group of hooded men.

Richard then fixes an appointment at Grenier, during which he announces to him that its tergiversations and its bonds with Chance are likely to be expensive to him. He asks him to forget Anna Gretz, without what he will be carried out. Attic refuses and congédie Richard by threatening it of reprisals if it arrives something at his partner.

The evening, a police officer comes to seek it in his residence and the conduit at the University where Anna Gretz was found killed out of a ball in the head in the trunk of a car. The claim is signed Brigades of Popular Action.

Not having more anything to lose, Grenier decides to finish some and know finally which of Richard or Chance made assassinate Anna Gretz. Reassembling in a few hours the die of the student friendly gauchists of its partner, it arrives at Ramos (Marc Mazza), worrying character who seems to be a mole of the East having infiltrated the Brigades of Popular Action. Having cut down, it obtains from his companion, Rudy the Blonde, the name of the treating officer of Ramos, which is at the origin of the infiltration of the Brigades by the KGB. Presenting itself to an appointment in the place of Ramos, it is found vis-a-vis Chance, which it cuts down coldly, being persuaded that it responsible for died for Anna Gretz.

The same night, Richard receives a telephone call of the Elys3ee palace which orders to him to eliminate Grenier, become completely unverifiable. One learns in the passing that they are the men of Richard who cut down Anna Gretz.

The next morning, Anna is buried with the catholic cemetery of Zurich. Attic observes the ceremony since a close forest. The men of Richard catch up with it and kill it out of four balls in the back whereas it is on the point of fleeing in the car. They then bury it in an isolated clearing.

This film, works masterly but too little known, been used by excellent dialogs as Michel Audiard, is drawn from the book Chance awakening of Georges Markstein (Gallimard editions, collection Black series).

Yves Boisset knew to give to this history a formidable dramatic intensity, underlined by an oppressive atmosphere and characters as worrying as enigmatic. The tragic figure of Sebastien Attic, man tracked and crushed by a past which catches up with it under outside of nightmare, is superbly incarnated by Ventura a seizing Lino of truth. The division sequences and their situation in days and hours accentuate moreover the character relentless of the vice which is tightened at each second on Grenier. A life hardly rocks in one week under the eye of a spectator who will on several occasions seek to include/understand which plays thus with a man with the barks…
