Spring lock

The spring lock (in English: Bramah' S lock ) often called safety lock is a cylindrical mechanism provided with several sliding wings independent along the axis of the cylinder. The key makes it possible to position each wing so that the cylinder can turn.

The wings are maintained in home position by a helicoid spring in the direction of the axis.

This system of lock was invented by Joseph Bramah (deposit of the patent the August 21st 1784).

The lock was hooked in 1851 at the time of the Grande exposure to London by Alfred Charles Hobbs (1812 - 1891).
