Spree

The Spree is a German Rivière, Affluent of the Havel.

Etymology

The name Spree comes from Slavic the zpriav , zspriawa or also spiawe ( Sprowja in Sorabe), and means the river sorabe , according to the name of the last alive Slavic group between the Saxony and the Brandenbourg, the sorabes or Serbes white.

Spree is long of approximately 400km, among which 182 km are navigable. The Bassin pouring river extends on 10.105 km ². Spree takes its source in the Land of Saxony close to the Czech border then crosses the Brandenburg and Berlin and is thrown in the Havel by Right Bank on the level of Spandau.

Spree is generally regarded as an affluent of Havel, although it is a little longer than the latter and than its flow with the junction is, with 36 cubic meters at the second, more twice the more important.

Geography

Spree crosses Länders of the Saxony, the Brandenbourg and Berlin. It skirts the Czech border between Neugersdorf and Ebersbach.
