Sporting Dance

sporting Danse indicates the Danse practiced as a Sport. At the origin, this term was applied to the Danse of living room of competition, in its international style.

International Dance Sport Federation (IDSF) is an international grouping gathering the amateurs, while World Dance & Dance Sport Council (WD&DSC) is an international grouping governing the professionals of the dance.

The sporting dance for amateurs acquired an high level in the world. In particular, the sporting dance for the students enjoys a great popularity in the world, particularly with the the United Kingdom where 20.000 students are members of Inter Varsity Dance Association (IVDA).

Sporting Dance and Olympic ideal

In 1997 the International Olympic committee (COI) officially recognized the sporting dance as a sport, with the IDSF like International Sporting Fédération recognized by the CIO. The IDSF strongly pushes with the recognition of the sporting dance like “medal sport” for the Olympic Games. However the decision of the COI remained negative to date. It is valid until the Olympic Games of 2012 and will be then prone to reconsideration.
