The Sporting Club Albigensian is a club of Rugby to XV French taking part in the Top 14 since the season 2006-2007.

History

The Sporting Club Albigensian is created in December 1906 like general sports club where, in addition to Rugby, one practices tennis and the athletics.

The first title arrives twenty years later, on November 28th, 1926, a victory finally of the championship of the Pyrenees, the top of regional Rugby, against the Stade Toulousain. It is in these years also that the stage Maurice Rigaud was inaugurated.

In 1940, the mode of constrained Vichy clubs of the cities of less than 50.000 inhabitants to be amalgamated (see UA Gaillac for a similar example). Moreover, its systematic attack against the Rugby with XIII obliges the Albigensian leaders of the S.C.A quinzist of the R.C.A. XIII to form a single entity, called Albi Olympique . Under this name, the club gains two French Challenges in 1942 and 1943.

The club takes again its old name in 1945, while the treizists take again their way. In 1949, the SCA reaches division Nationale (the First Division) and disputes even a eighth of finale in 1955, lost against the US Novels, after having left large the Racing club France in sixteenth.

The life of the club is then rythmée by the ceaseless to and from between the First and the Second divisions: D2 between 1957 and 1959, D1 between 1961 and 1970, D2 between 1970 and gone up in 1973. In 1974, the SCA beats the Stade Toulousain in sixteenth of finale of the First Division before being inclined against the CA Brive in eighth. The descent the year according to is followed of a new promotion in 1977, then of another in 1980. During five seasons, the SCA will evolve/move with the more high level, before falling down in Group B in 1985. The club is maintained in the Group B then in the elite amateur with the liking of the modifications made to the championships.

Years 2000 open on a revival. The SCA disputes three consecutive finales of Nationale 1/Fédérale 1 into 2000,2001 and 2002, all lost against Oloron Sainte-Marie, Oyonnax and the university Olympic Lyon (LOU). Nevertheless, in spite of the last defeat in 2002, it is the access to the Pro D2, which offered two rises this year.

Lastly, thanks to two last victories in the play-offs of Pro D2 against the ACE Béziers and the US Dax in 2006, Albi reinstates the elite of French Rugby for the season 2006-2007 and 2007-2008.

Anecdotes

The president of the Republic Georges Pompidou, which made all its studies in Albi, had agreed to become honorary president of the club in 1969.
