Sport hall of Paris

The Sport hall of Paris is located place of the Porte de Versailles in the 15th district of Paris.

To replace the old man Vel' d' Hiv demolished, the Parisian ones discover, in 1960, the Sport hall of the Porte de Versailles. At that time, it is the only room of the capital being able to accommodate to 4.500 spectators. Composed of 1.100 aluminum panels, its dome represents a true technical prowess, the architects and engineers having managed to carry out the largest self-supporting light alloy dome existing in the world! As of its first season, the Sport hall accommodates the largest spectacles, in particular Johnny Hallyday, Sylvie Vartan, the Harlem Globetrotters, Holiday one Ice,… and of course the boxing matches which will do of it in a few months one of the principal centres of attraction of world boxing. Since, hundreds of thousands of spectators of the whole world came to applaud artists of variety, dancers, skaters, sportsmen in all kinds, programs of circus, musical comedies ( the Ten Commands , the Sun king ) and other spectacles, in particular those of Robert Hossein, at the origin of the first large live performances created in France. As much for its acoustics that for its visibility, it is certainly the best Parisian room of spectacles, whatever the site where one is.
