Spoke

The spoke is a musical movement appeared at the beginning of the 20th century around Oran.

The origin of the word spoke , which means “opinion”, “opinion” or “point of view”, would come from the time when the Sheik (main), poet of the tradition Melhoun , lavished wisdom and councils in the form of poetries sung in local dialect. However, in the context of the popular lament, the singer who complains about his own misfortunes without wanting to show nobody even shows him. And more exactly, he addresses himself to his own faculty of understanding, with his spoke which, yielding to the feelings, led it to make the bad decisions. The song starts as follows: Ya Raï (O my understanding).

To compare with other registers such as the Mawal where the singer addresses to his Master and lord; or the Layali where he addresses himself to the night, and Ya 'Ayn ,… expensive of its bodies.

History

Beginnings

Since the Years 1920, the Masters and mistresses of the spoke traditional Oranian such Sheik Khaldi, Sheik Hamada or Cheikha Remitti, represents the culture Bedouin E traditional. Their repertory is double. The official register celebrates the religion, the love and the values morals at the time of the festivals of the saints of the tribes, the marriages or the circumcisions. The disrespectful register (a loophole with the rigors of Islamic morals ) is prohibited and sung primarily in the Souk S and the taverns. Travelling dancers and musicians speak there about the alcohol and the sexual intercourse. These two forms are at the origin of the modern spoke.

In the Years 1930, one sings the Wahrani , adaptation of the melhoun accompanied to the Oud , with the Accordéon, the Banjo or the Piano. This music mixes with the other influences musical Arab, but so Spanish, French and Latin-American. Thus, towards the Years 1950, with Cheikha Remitti (Charak gataâ), this music which, in the beginning, gathers only some singers, ends up extending, after independence, with the whole of the Algérie. The traditional instruments of the spoke ( Nay , Derbouka and Bendir ) put up to the Electric guitar and its pedal wah wah as at Mohammed Zargui or to the trumpet and the Saxophone as at Bellemou Messaoud.

In the Années 1960 appear two orchestras which make move the town of Oran: the orchestra “Adam' S”, and orchestra the “Student' S”.

Popularization

At the end of the Years 1970, the Synthetizer S and the boxes at rates/rhythms make their appearance, the spoke impregnates styles Rock, pop, Funk, Reggae and Disco with in particular Mohammed Maghni, but also Rachid Baba Ahmed and Fethi Baba Ahmed which develops the production spoke .

It is only at the beginning of the Années 1980 that the spoke truly will be catapulted with the row of national Musique with the arrival of new singers, the Chebs (“young person”, female cheba ): Cheb Hasni, Cheba Fadila ( You Are Undermines , 1988), Cheb Khaled ( Kutche , 1989), Cheb Mami ( Let Me Spoke , 1990), Cheb Sahraoui, Chaba Zahouania, Cheb Kader ( From Oran to Paris ), Abdel Ali Slimani, Ahmed Saber, Bouchnak Brothers, etc There exist also groups as Raïna Spoke ( Hagda , Zina ), very popular in Algeria, which colors its pieces with other musical genres. There exist also several female artists of spoke (who often come from Meddahates ) such as Chaba Zahouania or Fadela.

This new music mixes traditional instruments, synthetizers, electronic and low battery, giving to the last style of old melodies. The first Festival '' Raï '' takes place with Oran in 1985. Vis-a-vis the passion of the young Algerians, the government recognizes officially the spoke like forms musical main road, a recognition considered to be intolerable by certain islamist groups which go until assassinating certain artists of spoke of which Cheb Hasni.

Internationalization

Arrived to France at the end of the years 1980, the spoke reached there a strong popularity in the Years 1990. The most known artists in France are Cheb Khaled ( Didi a tube which made the round the world tour), Rachid Taha (begun again Ya Rayah , music Chaâbi of Dahmane El Harrachi) and Faudel ( Tellement brig ). Cheb Mami is famous with the international scales with a song in duet with Sting.

Vis-a-vis this success, type-setters of different styles unite with the movement (Jean-Jacques Goldman composes Aïcha for Khaled) and much of songs are interpreted in French. The spoke benefits from it to mix with other forms of music like the Rap , the Reggae , the Rock, or the music Techno. And more recently (be 2004) the emergence of a musical new wave which combines spoke and Rhythm and blues , thanks to compilation Raï' B Fever which has joins together great names of the two musical genres.

Since 2001, in France, the SCUMS recognized the spoke like a musical genre with whole share by allotting to him two frequencies in Paris region for the Radio FM '' Only spoke '' founded and launched by Ahmed Ben Abla. It is reachable on frequencies 94.6 MHz and 91.5 MHz and diffuses its programs 24:00 /24.

July 2007 it is the birth of " Wah' Raï" the first official radio of the Spoke on line of Oran on the Web " Wah' Raï" or one finds the largest artists of Spoke like Cheb Hasni or the artist currently sails about it in Algeria: Cheb Abbots
