Splatterhouse
Splatterhouse is a Beat them all and a Jeu of horror of Namco, left on arcade in 1988, then converted on many supports.
Scenario
The player takes the control of Rick, a student in parapsychology which left (with its been engaged Jennifer) to research Doctor West, his idol.Whereas they enter both the manor of the Doctor and that the storm thunders, Jennifer disappears and Rick dies. At this point in time an old Aztec sacrificial mask, knew under the name of Terror Mask and which made probably party of the private collection of strange objects of Dr. West, the ressuscite.
Rick, breathing again, will have to face the dangers of the manor (the West Manor ) and to try to save its beloved.
Gameplay
The player directs the character who is seen of profile (scrolling horizontal). Terror Mask resembles much, in the version arcade in particular, with a mask of hockey). The play is based on a simple system. Side displacement, the player can move Rick towards the right-hand side and the left, jump and bend down. For the offensive, Rick can give punches when it is upright and of the kicks when it jumps or is squatted. A handling of the buttons makes it possible to give a slipping kick (Sliding Kick).
In the various levels, some weapons are available. When it are collected (while bending down), they replace the punches. However these weapons are usable only in zones delimited by the play.
Here are some:
-
2-by-4 : left bar to mine which has the advantage of striking the monsters at good distance.
-
Cleaver : the sheet of stopping has a range less large than the 2-by-4 .
-
Rifle : this pump rifle can draw 8 times. Certainly the best weapon of the play, but it is more than rare and must be used advisedly.
Comment
The play is characterized very by an environment Gore, decorations very glaucous and monsters which die in a violent way.Apparently, the developers took as a starting point the film Friday the 13th , the hero of Splatterhouse resembling much Jason Voorhees the killer psychopathe of film. A rumor says that Namco was strongly inspired some after not having obtained the rights to exploit the character of Jason.
The version arcade by far is ended. Graphics are very beautiful for the time, the sounds and the musics stick well to the unit. The TurboGraph-X version certainly is successful, the play losing many of its details on this support.
Environment is well proposed, in particular thanks to the monsters which seldom have a graphic originality considering.
It should be noted that Splatterhouse was one of the first play to receive a prohibition at least 16 years, due to violence and images satanist (one of the Boss being a cross with back).
Conversions
The play knows several conversions after its exit to arcade in 1988:- BORN (version Splatterhouse: Wanpaku Graffiti , 1989). Version of the play in Super deformed , different from original on many points, exit only with the Japan.
