Spirometer

A spirometer is an instrument being used to make a Spirométrie: the measurement of the Volume S of air inspired and expired by a patient as well as the Flow S being attached to it.

Types of spirometers

There exist two main categories of spirometers:
  • spirometers measuring a volume and providing the flow indirectly:
    • “bell with water”,
    • spirometer with joint of unfolding,
    • bellows;
  • spirometers measuring the flow and providing volume indirectly:
    • turbine with optical measurement speed,
    • spirometer with heating wire,
    • measurement of the pressure on both sides of a resistance.
