Spirit was a stable of automobile race founded by John Wickham. Spirit took part in the championship of the world of Formule 1 of 1983 with 1985. The stable disputed a total of 23 GP, 4347 km in race without managing to register of point to the championship of the world of the manufacturers.
History
John Wickham founds his racing stable to dispute the championship of the world of Formule 2. He engages in particular the Swedish pilot Stefan Johansson in 1982 and this one goes up to 3 recoveries on the podium. The motor mechanic of the stable, Honda, incites Wickham then to pass to the higher category, by preserving Johansson as pilot. In 1983, Gordon Coppuck is charged to modify Formula 2 of 1982 Formulates 1 of them so that it can receive V6 turbo Honda. The 201 (which will evolve/move in 201-C) is too heavy, while the beach of use of V6 Honda proves too restricted. Johansson manages to qualify himself only with 6 recoveries and does not register any point with the championship.
At the end of 1983, Honda, of which the ambitions in F1 are made larger, realizes that Spirit is not undoubtedly capable to make them progress sufficiently. Honda contacts Williams then, in search of a new engine. Honda invites the two stables to a comparative test with Donington: the winner will see himself allotting the engine for 1984. The 201-C is inclined of more than 2 seconds to the tower vis-a-vis the FW-09B which was however not conceived around the Honda engine. Wickham decides to continue despite everything in F1 and requests Hart to motorize its news 101.
Spirit-Binder 101 of 1984, always conceived by Coppuck, is entrusted to Mauro Baldi, Johansson having left to carry out a measuring rod at Tyrrell. Baldi begins the season, without shining before being replaced by the Netherlander Huub Rothengatter, who does not illustrate him either. The Binder is too fragile, and too not very powerful to hope to take down a place in the points.
In 1985, the news 101-D committed, is always motorized by theturbo one. She is entrusted again to Baldi, which disputes only 3 GP. The chronic lack of results for 3 years (one 7th place, four 8th places and one 9th place for 9 finished GP) has plunged the stable in financial stagnation. Luciano Benetton repurchases it with a their only aim of benefitting from the tires Pirelli which will be placed at the disposal of the stable Toleman, also repurchased by Benetton. It is the end of Spirit which will have disputed 23 GP, without managing to register the least point.
