Spirantisation

The spirantisation in the fields of linguistics, the history and phonetics, like the Liabalization and the Affrication are evolutionary phenomena of some Phonème S. But these phenomena are without any incidence on the direction of the words and thus do not affect comprehension: they are phenomena Phonétique S.

It is a synonym of Lénition, softening, weakening.

The phenomenon of spirantisation is thus not a corrosive rupture in the sense that the Phonème S having undergone such an evolution remain identifiable since they do not change a phonological class.
