Spill valve

A spill valve ( dump valve in English) is a Soupape used on the old vehicles with Turbocompresseur.

Located between the exit of turbo and the intake manifold, it allows, during the change of report/ratio whereas the turbo one is not pulled any more by exhaust fumes, to avoid the return of pressure (called water hammers ) in the turbo one while letting escape the pressure present in the circuit from overfeeding. As soon as the pilot presses again on the gas pedal, this valve is closed again and allows again the rise in pressure of the circuit of overfeeding.

There exist two types of spill valves:

  • the valves with recirculation, which reject to l´air in the admission;
  • the valves with evacuation, which slacken to l´air outside with a specific noise that one very often hears on the cars of WRC.
