Spike the Bulldog

Spike Bulldog is a character of the cartoons Warner Bros Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies. It was created by Friz Freleng and its first appearance goes back to 1952 in the cartoon Tree for Two.

Spike has an enormous body, powerful muscles and a wild air. It carries a red pullover to turtleneck and small bowler hat at the top of the head. Spike is brutal and misuses it. And it obtine often against smallest, which does not carry chance to him.

It projects the image of a sure dog of him, keeping almost permanently an air marabout. Spike, thanks to its aspect of colossus and of dominating, is that which affontre and drives out the cats. He and Chester the burrow are friendly for the life and are inseparable.

The history of Spike is indissociable of that of his/her large friend Chester the burrow. Together, they decide to face in general the cats and Grosminet in particular.

In their first adventure, Chester and Spike leave to the continuation Grosminet (Sylvester), but with each time Spike is about to catch Grosminet (Sylvester), a black panther escaped from a zoo appears for molester Spike.

In their second adventure, Spike and Chester find face of Grosminet (Sylvester) just have just swallowed celebrates it potion of Mister Hyde.

At the end of their adventures, the two dogs change role, becoming Chester dominating it with the bowler hat, and Spike dominated in admiration in front of its idol.

One should not confuse the character of Spike Bulldog with that of Hector Bulldog, well-known near Grosminet (Sylvester) and Titi (Tweety Bird). One notes also the presence of a bulldog fore-mentioned Spike in the series Tom and Jerry produces by MGM but it has nothing to do with Spike de Freleng. Like known as the so well saying, it there not just a dog which is called Fido.
