Spiennes

Situation

Spiennes is a section of the Belgian Ville of Mons, located in Walloon region in the Province of Hainaut.

It was a commune with whole share before the fusion of the communes of 1977.

Flint Mines

Its prehistoric last rich person allowed to classify this village to UNESCO thanks to his flint mines. The visits are accessible to all, above 12 years, for a price more than reasonable. That is worth the blow to be plunged centuries behind. One discovers there the techniques of drilling and harvest of flints of our ancestors. The wells are deep of approximately 10 meters and it reigns there permanently a temperature of 8°-10°.
