Sphinx of the lime

The sphinx of the lime is a Lépidoptère pertaining to Sphingidae.

  • Distribution: palearctic areas.

  • Scale of the male: 25 to 33 Misters
  • Period of flight: of April at September in one or two generations.
  • Habitat: up to 1.500 Mr.
  • Plant-hosts: especially Tilia and Ulmus .

In July - August, always isolated, practically invisible and never very many, caterpillars of the Sphinx of the lime: Mimas tiliae, can be located under the tree by the presence of their dejections. For nymphoser they are descended on the ground, often while being dropped; at this time they lost their beautiful color.
