Sperry Corporation
Elmer Ambrose Sperry founded Sperry Gyroscope Company in 1910. This company manufactured material of navigation. A named company Sperry Corporation was created in 1933. This company was a Holding including a whole of companies such as Sperry Gyroscope, like Ford Instrument Company, Intercontinental Aviation, Inc. and others.
In 1953, this company produced the first numerical computer, SPEEDAC. In 1955, Sperry bought Remington Rand and was renamed Sperry Rand. Data-processing division takes the name of Sperry Univac.
In 1978, Sperry Rand decides to concentrate on data processing, resells a whole of divisions such as Remington Rand Systems, Remington Rand Machines, Ford Instrument Company, Sperry Aerospace and Sperry Vickers. The company also takes again its name of Sperry Corporation.
In 1986, Sperry amalgamates with Burroughs Corporation and becomes Unisys. Certain divisions of Sperry, such as Sperry New Holland, Sperry Gyroscope, Sperry Vickers, Sperry Marine and Sperry Flight Systems were then resold.
