Speedbass
The Speedbass is a musical genre. At the origin, this style of music coming from the west of the United States was born from a mixing public, diffusing by Internet and listening to mixtures of gabber and Drum and low, without worrying to belong to a kind.
The direct mixture of these two styles, also integrating savors of dub and techniques of dj hip hop, gave a new kind of electronic music. In San Francisco, the S.P.A.Z crew and other people was at the origin of the creation of this hybrid kind which will become the speedbass. Other types, like Steven Prothero of Iron Feather Newspaper in Boulder, Colorado, followed the same way. Other similar scenes developed in the north of America, like the scene hardcore new yorkaise and the " heavy bass" Techno of Wisconsin.
The term Speedbass was applied specifically to this movement by the Californian musician Terbo Ted at the end of 1998, and this word was quickly spread.
With the autumn 1999, Speedbass is still young. The basic criteria were a very fast speed (starting from 300 bpm) and rich in subharmonic low frequencies. But it was especially a question of having the simplicity of a " spirit; rock' roll" , of the common jokes in the kind were to use the samples test low sound engineers or refer them with the cowboys. The Speedbass artists could come from all the horizons, as well amateurs as coming from the techno, jungle, trip hop or dub. Thanks to Internet, the movement was not confined in the United States.
" Speedbass sucks! "
Speedbass wanted to be rebel and completely nonconformist. Thus, humor was inérent, and refer them old-fashioned as the country mingled with it well, the sound of very bad quality to go contrary to any commercial production, a spirit a little motorcyclist relative at the graying speed which gives feelings of freedom, the bad taste, the psychedelism and good mood were of setting. Yeee-aaaah!
At the time same, one said that Speedbass was a transitory movement from its anticonformist philosophy, which was to die in its firmament.
Today, the Speedbass movement still exists and saw, but one would tend more to speak about post-speedbass. Preserved mentality deumeure the fun (" Speedbass is fun") and a certain violence in an experimental kind of techno- Breakcore, amusing, drawing from refer a little old-fashioned, salts, always relatively anticonformist and sometimes provocative, the speed not being more really of setting. Some however like to find the traditions of a kind which is very expensive today to them!
