Speed limits in the United Kingdom

With the the United Kingdom (official abbreviation: GB - for " Great Britain") imperial measurements are always used on the road to indicate the distances and speed (Thousand per hour - mph in English), not metric measurements.

  • In the urban centres, maximum speed is 30 mph (48 km/h).

  • On the roads of only one way, maximum speed is 60 mph (96 km/h).
  • On the “highways” (highways) and on the roads in two ways, maximum speed is 70 mph (112 km/h) (unless otherwise specified on the control panels).

If the speed limit is exceeded of 10% + 1 mph (ex: in a zone 60 mph, 60 + 60/10 + 1 = 67 mph) one runs the risk to be condemned.

Other rules

  • Led left side of the roadway (see Direction of circulation)
  • maximum Blood alcohol content authorized to the wheel: 0,8 alcohol g/L in blood.
