Speed limits in Austria

In Austria (official abbreviation: has ), the speed limits are the following ones:

  • downtown, speed is limited to 50 km/h. There exists however of many zones limited to 30 km/h
  • Except agglomeration, speed is limited to 100 km/h
  • On highway, speed is limited to 130 km/h. The experiment Tempo 160 was stopped in 2007, in the name of an increase in the road insecurity and pollution.

Attention with many speed controls.

Other rules

  • obligatory Lighting of the dipped headlights 24:00 /24;
  • maximum Blood alcohol content authorized at the wheel: 0,5 alcohol g/L in blood;
  • Many fines when the police force estimates that the drivers are obstructed by an object in the vehicle (e.g.: tree deodorizing on the interior rear view mirror).
