The speech from the throne , also called Speech of the Crown , is an event common to several Monarchie S in the world and during which the monarch (or a representative) makes an address prepared in front of the Parlement complete joined together, in order to present the program of the government for the year to come. The speech is never written by the Head of State itself, but by the majority party with the Lower House of the Parliament.

With the the United Kingdom, the Speech from the throne ( Speech from the Throne in English) belonged to a very solemn ritual called the opening ceremony of the Parliament. Pronounced by the monarch, it has in fact written by the Prime Minister.

With the Netherlands, the speech from the throne proceeds third Tuesday of September and is accompanied by the presentation of the budget according to a precise ritual implying the Prime Minister and the Minister for Finance. This day is called the Prinsjesdag.
