Special school of public works, the building and industry

The special School of public works, the building and industry ( ESTP ), is one of oldest the private school of engineers in France. The duration of the schooling is three years. It is established with Cachan (laboratories and residences coeds) but also in the Latin Quarter. Contrary to much of others Parisian universities, it preserved its establishment of origin.

Foundation of the school

Born with Tulle in a modest milieu, Leon Eyrolles is received in 1882 conducting Ponts and Chaussées. While exerting its functions in the administration, it helps some colleagues to prepare the contest of driver of the Highways Departments. The School of the Highways Departments is practically the only establishment of higher education in the field of public works whereas the time is with the great work requested by the technical revolution (advent of the electricity, the Téléphone, birth of metal architecture, the Reinforced concrete etc)

In 1891, Leon Eyrolles creates a course by correspondence called " the School at soi". In 1898, it is devoted exclusively to teaching and installs the classes and offices of the School of Public works to the Latin Quarter. Little by little, with the support of the public authorities and the profession, it creates in precursor the campus of Cachan to install there space necessary to the practical applications. The development of the Special School of Public works, the Building and the Industrie does nothing but start.

Formation proposed

The ESTP is recognized in the world of the Construction industry (BTP) and in that of industry as being a school at the same time professionalisante and general practitioner. A great number of frameworks of the BTP, industry and finance are former students of the ESTP. The school maintains a great number of close relations with more the large companies of the sector.

Engineer

The ESTP forms Engineer S following four specialities:

It recruits mainly on the special contests E3A on the level mathematical. The allowed ones on title (allowed directly in first year of cycle engineer with a formation HAD about it, IUP of civil engineering or other) also integrate this school. The school delivers approximately 500 diplomas per annum.

The title of qualified engineer of the ESTP, labellized under the name of Engineer ETP, is recognized by the Commission of the titles of engineer. The ESTP is attached since 1999 to the 3Ecole Nationale Sup3erieure of arts and trades. In spite of this fastening, the diploma is aimed by the director of the ENSAM. The ESTP thus remains a private school, and the students in engineering must discharge school fees (5508 euros per annum, for the school year 2007-2008).

Specialized technician

The ESTP trains also engineers sections according to two specialities:

Recruitment is done mainly after the vat. The diploma for the occupation of conducting technician specialized in public works and driver of work of the building are approved by the State on level III (vat +2).

Today, this diploma can also prepare by alternation. By signing an apprenticeship contract two years, one can integrate this course, which free and is remunerated (between 50 and 70% of minimum SMIC according to the age and the diplomas).

This formation is it also paying (4287 euros per annum for the school year 2007-2008).

Mastères specialized

Different the Mastères specialized proposed by the ESTP is:
  • Control of work and real management (MOGI),
  • Management of the building firms (AMEC),
  • Facilities Management: management of the real estate and the services of company (FMISE),
  • total Management of the risks in partnership with the GRID (Group of research on the Risk) and ENSAM.

Community life

Association of the pupils

The association of the pupils is called the BLOCK. The name goes up at the time of resistance. The ESTP is illustrated then by its engagement in the resistance networks (which will be worth to him to be listed in 1954 with the Order of the army with attribution of the Military Cross 1939-1945).

Association founded in 1943, the Block-ETP assigned two missions:
