Special Zone of Xaysomboun

Installation in 1994, this special zone was consisted of the Northern part of the old province of Vientiane (divided into 1989) and of a short period of the Province of Xieng Khuang. This mountainous area is mainly populated minorities Hmong and Khmu.

This special province was created in order to better control and isolate these populations, which were allied France then later of the United States at the time of the secret Guerre of the time of the war of Vietnam.
